I'm anal about window size and positions

but W2K doesn't seem to share my analness.

 

Does anyone know why W2K doesn't reliably, after closing a window by

shutting down the app, restore it to the size and position that it occupied

on the screen when you next open that app?

 

If it's just a W2K quirk, and I'm thinking it is after diddleing with it off

and on since W2K was released, is there a utility that's "better than

others" that will manage the window sizes and positions in the background? I

had pretty much learned to live with it until I just moved from an old 17

inch CRT to a 21 inch wide aspect LCD monitor and now it's even more

irritating than before with all that screen real estate.

Normal Windows applications do exactly as you describe. IF they aren't

then you might try holding the ctrl key while closing with the "x" in

the upper right. Some applications and utilities on the other hand are

"hard coded" to a particular location and size, you will need to

determine the difference.

It's up to the individual applications to restore window/size

position, not win2k, some do it & some don't. All my apps do. It's

theoretically possible to have a utility that "watches" all app

windows as they open and close, cache their properties and restore

them . . . but I wouldn't try it, apps have too many types of windows

that are hard to track.
