Desktop heap - CsrSrvSharedSectionBase invalid

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello.

On Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) the CsrSrvSharedSectionBase-value in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

\SubSystems\CSRSS] is invalid.

I've seen this on several machines. Not one machine had a valid value.

Does anyone know why this is?

What is it used for?

Is it 32-bit specific?

How about the Windows-value in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM

\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems]? Is that 32-bit

specific?

I'm having some problems finding the right value for the SharedSection-

setting in the Windows-value in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM

\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems].

The default value is '1024,20480,768' but changes don't seem to have

any effect.

Does anybody know how much RAM is allocated for the desktop heap on 64-

bit?

Thanks

Mads

Try this: The registry type may be set incorrectly set to a d-word type, it

should be set to a q-word type (64-bit value)

try recreating the value as a Q-word and use the same value.

The default Desktop Heap for x64 should be 104 meg if I recall properly

It is documented in this article talking about Terminal Services.

Re: Desktop heap - CsrSrvSharedSectionBase invalid

Thanks, Darrel.

Do you know what the value should be?

I have some difficulties seeing what it is.

It looks like machine code to me...

Regards

Mads

Re: Desktop heap - CsrSrvSharedSectionBase invalid

Hello Mads,

I don't have a Windows Server 2003 X64 installation available to me right

now.

Running Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 beta builds sO I don't know

what the default should be

Maybe someone else on the newsgroup can report back what their values are

for that key.

Thanks,

Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
