international keyboard support

Hi Everyone,

I installed Windows XP x64 on my computer, and it is working fine except

there is no support for keyboards outside of the US. There are only

four choices in the "Regional & Language Options" under the "Add input

section":

United States-Dvorak

United States-Dvorak for left hand

United States-Dvorak for right hand

United States-International

Any ideas on why support for international keyboards are missing?

It's a standard USB keyboard. No drivers are necessary. Works fine in

any 32-bit Windows XP, 2000 computer I've tried it on. With the

previous installations of 32-bit XP/2000, there has always been the

option to select which kind of keyboard you are using in the control

panel. It's just not there in my x64 installation--only the four US

keyboard types I mentioned earlier.

Initially, I think this sounds a bit strange - I llive in Denmark and

exculsively use english installations on my machines, but I do configure my

local keyboard during the installation, and have never been exposed to

anything like this. Try and install a few extra languages from the

'Regional' applett (have your CD ready) and make sure you have defined one

of them as the default and check there is a definition for you default

keyboard characterset from that end.

Come to think of it - If you have the US version, perhaps you need the

International (UK) version for International support in the box?

Yeah, it is very strange. I have never been exposed to anything like

this either. It is only in the the x64 installation I have encountered

this. I use English only installations with Danish keyboard mappings

with all my prior installation of 32-bit Windows with no problems.

I will double check the version of my Windows x64, but it should be the

international version that supports the Danish language and keyboard

since it was purchased here.

I have the Microsoft keyboard and installed the driver, so am unable to

reply to the original standard built in support. Mine is the English

version and has 100+ available to choose from. I use English and Spanish

(Venezuela) for my keyboards.

I think that most likely something went wrong with your install - if nothing

else comes up, I would do the 'Repair Install', and maybe clean the CD/DVD

drive. A few have had problems installing on USB keyboards even if they work

fine afterwards - try and borrow a PS2 keyboard if you can and go over your

BIOS settings just in case, and do the Repair Install, it will keep your

personal data but the on-line MS updates you have collected will be gone.

Thanks everyone for your input. I resolved the problem with Microsoft

Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 (MKLC) -- I just installed it on a computer

with the Danish keyboard layout on it, exported the Danish keyboard

settings via the MKLC, and then imported and installed it using MKLC on

the x64 system.

Worked perfectly!
