Windows cannot load dvd driver error code 39

Bit of a novice here!

Just bought new DELL-- with vista

Whilst awaiting internet driver from Tiscali - using old PC currently - I

either tried to copy a DVD made by a mate with unrecognised software are and

more likely installed Video impression software for digital camera. Both

DVD-ROM and DVD +-RW devices used to work before - now both show status

'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be

corrupted or missing ( Code 39 ) Cannot go on l;ine from new PC to check

solution. Also when checking driver details states latest driver installed.

Removed Video Impression software but this made no difference

Help! after only 3 days with new PC

Try this:

Yes, it also applies to Vista.

Please post back your results so that we can know if you could succeed.

Best of luck.

Gone through the problem a few time and

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us worked every time. It happens

when you uninstall an installed program, they show in Bios and Systems but

don't load.

RE: Windows cannot load dvd driver error code 39

Hello,

I don't really like that article. You have the potential for breaking

other things that are installed when you follow these steps.

Those registry values contain Filter Drivers. Those drivers affect the

operation of drive and capabilities presented.

What can happen is that an application is removed or deleted the filter

driver associated with that application now is not functional or that

filter driver itself is corrupted, missing, etc.

Since those keys can each contain multiple filter drivers, you can and will

break OS functionality as well as other applications.

Care should be taken to look at all the drivers listed on each of those

entries. The entries should be backed up, so that values can be added back

to restore lost functionality.

For example burning capability may be missing after deleting those entries,

either OS or applications that support burning may be broken.

Certain types of media that require filter drivers for support, may not

longer be legible. Some DVDs may work, while other DVDs may not work.

Care should be taken when running these steps.

Thanks,

Darrell Gorter[MSFT]
