Seth Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 No. Provided you followed the instructions correctly, the Eset scan will have removed the threats automatically. Seth Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 1) Upgrade to IE7. 2) You have three tool bars in IE. My suggestion is to remove the Yahoo and MSN toolbar. 3) If you don't use AOL as your internet service provider, then remove all instances from Add/Remove programs. 4) Rid yourself of AVG: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/3597-free-pc-help-recommended-security-products.html Quote Need help with your computer problems? layler Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 i am tryng to install IE7 How do i disable the anti virus and spyware ? thanks also what is sp3? Quote
layler Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 i am trying t install IE7 IT ASKS ME TO DISBALE MY ANTIVIRUS AND SPYWARE HOW DO I DO THIS ASLO COULD ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS SP3? THANKS LAYLER Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hi Layler SP3 is Service Pack 3 from Microsoft and is considered a critical update. The easiest way to get it is to check for updates after you install IE7. Most antivirus programs have an icon in the taskbar which will allow you to disable it on a temporary basis. Otherwise just open the program and look for a disable button. Sorry but I cannot be more specific without knowing what programs you are running. Generally the same holds true for most spyware although you may have to go into the program in order to disable. Again, without knowing what spyware you are running it is hard to be specific. Hope that helpd but if not post back please. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
RandyL Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 If it's AVG: Right click the AVG icon in the system tray. Click Launch AVG Free Control Center. On the Security status page there should be a list of items with green check boxes next to them. Right click Resident shield and select Properties. Uncheck Turn on AVG Free resident Shield protection. Click OK. Are you using ZoneAlarm? Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. layler Posted November 13, 2008 Author Posted November 13, 2008 am running super anti spyware free edition as per pc help recommendation and also have instaled free anti malwa re malwarebytes so do i need to unistall these beforeu i upgrade to ie7? Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 No layler you do not need to uninstall SUPERantispyware has a small icon in the taskbar. Just right click and then click exit. You can re-enable it later or when you restart. I am not as familiar with AntiMalwarebytes but I do not believe it is monitoring your system and is used primarily for performing scans. You should not have to do anything with it and it should not prevent a proper install of IE7. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain

layler Posted November 19, 2008 Author Posted November 19, 2008 can you recommrend what anti virus and security software that i should have on my pc. i currently have zone alarm and av but not sure how gud they are. thanlks layler Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 HI Layler, I am not going to go into long winded explanations but I will tell you what you have to do so that you can follow Randy's direction and answer his queries. 1. While in IE7 click on tools (on top) and "manage add ons" from the drop down menu. Simply disable all running add ons. 2. Go to your settings and then control panel. In control panel go to "add and remove software" and uninstall any toolbars that you see. They will say toolbar in the program name. 3. Finally while still in control panel go to Windows Firewall and click on it. Simply click "off" and then OK. (if you do not have a seperate icon for windows firewall go to the security center and click on firewall where it says to manage security settings and turn it off there. Assuming that you have your antivirus disabled you will now be running without add ons, firewall or antivirus. Try that and get back to us please. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." layler Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008 have just realised my google tool bar has not been removed from the control panel do you think that could of made any difference to the ie7 update? Quote
Tootech Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Yes, the Google Toolbar, whilst seeming like it doesn't cause a problem, can do. Plenty of times I've seen IE7 not connecting to the internet or crashing/hanging when opened, and after removal of the Google toolbar, all is ok. Please uninstall it. Quote

RandyL Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 That's great layler. I would start by installing a different Antivirus program instead of using AVG. Take a look at Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Recommended Security products . After that get your Windows Updates which will include SP3. Quote We are all members helping other members.
