Plastic Nev Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 First, go back to control panel/ add or uninstall programs, and search out that Google tool bar and get rid of it. Then next, click "start" (bottom left corner of screen) then search. when that window opens select all files and folders. In the panel that opens type "Google Tool Bar". Also click "More advanced options and place a tick on "Hidden files and folders" also "Sub folders" then finally click search. If no further instance of Google tool bar shows up, then you can carry on. But if Google Tool bar shows up anywhere else, let us know where and whether you have managed to delete or uninstall those other instances. As Tootech states the google tool bar can be a menace, and sometimes can double install itself, hence the reason for asking you to do a search after the first uninstall. It could well be important to be sure you have got rid of google tool bar, as it may well be interfereing with other processes we may ask you to do. Quote Need help with your computer problems? layler Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 hi so have updated my anti virus and followed instructions re google tool bar have also got sp3 on there. i think zone alarm is blocking my access to net should i remove this and if so do mi need to replace it with something else? thanks layler Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Don't as yet remove or uninstall Zone Alarm, just go into it and disable it, I don't know Zone Alarm myself but most of these programs have an icon on the bottom right. A right click on it should open a window with an option to "Disable" or "Close". Try that first and see if you can access the net then. If so it may only need a reconfigure of Zone alarm to get you going. If still no access to the net then it will no doubt be some other problem preventing your access. Try as above first, then let us know what happens. We can then take it further as needed. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. layler Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 hi there yes have disable it and then it allows me to access the net so this must be the thing that keeps blocking the web pages,. thks layler Quote
Plastic Nev Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 (edited) Right Layler, thanks for that, it does indeed point to zone alarm being the culprit. However we don't want you to be running unprotected so you will need to configure something within Zone Alarm to allow you access to the net. As I say I am unfamiliar with Zone Alarm, so I will ask one of our other experts to help with that. Alternatively , I reccommend you have a look at our recommended firewalls here- http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/3597-free-pc-help-recommended-security-products.html And remove Zone Alarm as although a reasonable firewall there are certainly much better.
