Anyone know how to setup MIDI in vista 64?

What do you mean? It is pretty much the same as XP. Right click on a .mid

file, associate with a player, play if you have a codec. If not, you will

need to download an appropriate codec.

Martin:

The other aspect of your MIDI question would be if you are referring to the

MIDI output connector at the back of your PC.

The bad news it is no longer supported in Vista x64 (and XP x64).

You will find a bang (question mark) in that device in Device Manager.

There is no workaround for that.

The connector isn't recognized by the OS, but someone here claims to have a

it's a bit down the page. It involvs the Registry. I didn't read it all, and

I have no MIDI devices so cannot check.

Tony:

That article is for MIDI files playback on the PC without the use of the

connector.

My comment is about the MIDI connector which is used to connect external

MIDI instruments for sending/receiving MIDI commands.

A couple of years ago I had managed to connect my CASIO keyboard and let the

computer play the MIDI files of the games in the synthesizer.

Yes, the sinthesizer and not me, was playing the MIDI file from the game.

No one was actually touching neither the white or the black keys.

That was a great achievement considering the low quality of the FM MIDI

synthesizers (OPL2 and OPL3) of the early soundblasters.
