Error 1717 on ISP connect

Recommended Posts

I have recently purchased a new machine with vista 64-bit and in the last

couple of days when I try and connect to my ISP (dial up) it goes thru the

usual process right up to "verifying user name and password", then I get a

"error 1717: The Interace is Unknown.

I have searched the microsoft site but can only find reference to this

error for XP and some XP hotfixes. So far I have only added Office 2000 Pro

to keep my family connected.

Can anyone help me in why I am receiving this error on my Vista 64-bit box

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but is your modem recognized by the Vista installation? If not

you should check the manufacturer for a 64bit driver. A system CD provided

with the product may only have 32 bit driver(s), and that will not work.

Otherwise, check this link:

Thanks Tony. Further info is that my system did work correctly for approx 2

weeks before this error started happening. (Bought comlpete new system

including all hardware.)

Last night I ensured that both my workstation and RPC services were set to

automatic (read via XP threads) and on reboot this seems to have allowed

access again. However this still hasn't explained why it suddenly started

producing this error to start with. (scratching my head).

Re: Error 1717 on ISP connect

Well, initially, I had a few issues with the system not allways remembering

configuration changes. It sort of went away over time. Me too, have no idea

what triggered it or why it repaired itself.
