Guest Smithers Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 I just reimaged a desktop computer... going from XP Home to XP Pro. Specifically, I booted from the XP Pro disk, and took the option to install a fresh copy of Windows... deleted all partitions, created new partition, formatted it with NTFS (not quick format), and then completed the installation of XP Pro. I expected that the above sequence would have gotten rid of XP Home completely. But now when I boot the computer, I get a prompt asking if I want to start XP Home or XP Pro. This prompt has a timer that decrements down from 30 seconds. How can I get rid of that prompt? XP Home is actually not on the computer . I even selected the option to run XP Home from that prompt and it choked (as it should have). So how do I get rid of that prompt? Thanks!
Guest Anando [MVP] Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Re: Removing Prompt for Which XP Version To Load Hello, Click on Start/Run and type in MSCONFIG. Flip to the BOOT.INI tab and click on "Check all boot paths". This should remove any invalid boot paths from the boot.ini file. -- Anando Microsoft MVP- Windows Shell/User http://www.microsoft.com/mvp My Blog http://www.anando.org/blog "Smithers" <A@B.com> wrote in message news:%23x$3PleBIHA.4836@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I just reimaged a desktop computer... going from XP Home to XP Pro. > > Specifically, I booted from the XP Pro disk, and took the option to install a fresh copy of > Windows... deleted all partitions, created new partition, formatted it with NTFS (not quick > format), and then completed the installation of XP Pro. > > I expected that the above sequence would have gotten rid of XP Home completely.
