Help with the Malicious Software Removal Tool

After downloading the Malicious Software Removal Tool from Microsoft's website, I received an error stating that my system was not compatible with the program. I'm running up to date Windows 7 64x. Any ideas as to what is causing this error.

My pc has been running really slow and I'm sure that I have some sort of malware or virus due to a strange search page popping up when I click on links from Google or Bing. When you close the link then select it again, the webpage then goes to where you wanted.

I'm running Security Essentials and have tried other programs (that I know are safe) and nothing is finding what it is. I assume that this is whats blocking the Malicious Software Removal Tool. Any ideas?
