How to find new 'Patch Tuesday' patches?

Recommended Posts

It looks like I made a huge mistake. Yesterday was 'Patch Tuesday' for

October, and instead of carefully looking at everything that would be

installed, I just opted for the express install. One reboot later, and now

my system is hanging randomly. So my best guess is that I need to back out

the patches (if possible), but I'm not even sure what the new patches were.

Anyone know a good way to find the list of latest patches for XP64?

Go to Windows Update, on the left side you can select installed updates and

see all the updates and the status of the installs.

Yoshihama:

If you are in a hurry you can also try system restore and leave your system

as it was previous to the Tuesday patches.

System Restore will not remove the program updates that are made as part of

the patches. That is why you are advised to uninstall any programs which

were installed after the selected restore point if it is not to be

reinstalled.

John:

Good point, I had never taken detail that into account.

Oops, wrong order: "I had never taken that detail into account"

:)

Carlos:

No need to apologize. Grammatically English is backwards compared

with most other languages, unfortunately American followed English in that

respect. Have a great day.

So much for those well-intentioned "experts" that advise small businesses

and individuals to enable "automatic" updates on all their software in order

to ensure that they are always up to date with the latest patches. Even

Symantec LiveUpdate has an option for "Express install" which I have

rejected. Please always select "custom install" and view the list of updates

before deciding to install anything, except maybe the "malicious software

detection" tool released monthly. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of

cure.

There have been an unusual number of updates that have caused problems the

last 4-5 months.
