windows 2000 login problem - or how I screwed up!

Hi,

We only run workgroups on our network, we do not have a domain. The

other day the boss asked me to change the network settings so that all

computers would be on the same workgroup. At the end of the day I

had one more computer to go, I was in a rush and accidently set it to

a domain. Now when the computer boots up, the administrator login

requires a password and a domain to connect to.

I want to get this computer network settings back to using

workgroups. How do I do this? I have tried safe boot but no luck.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Bradley

When you see the logon box, open the drop-down box that

lets you select between "Domain" and "This PC".

Hi,

I think that I must have been mistaken,

I get the login screen which by default says User Name: Administrator

and the password is blank. The is a check box below this that asks if

you want to login using dialup connection (which we do not use)

So basically, the login is asking me for a password which as far as I

am concerned should not exist.

It is a common misconception to think that a password

"does not exist". There is no such thing. Every Win2000

account has a password, even if it is a blank.

If you cannot remember the password you used for the

Administrator account then you can reset it to a blank

with this boot disk:

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

And in future you should plan ahead to avoid such

embarasssing situations. How many sets of keys do you

have for your car? More than one? Why? How many

admin accounts do you have for your PCs? Just the

one? Why?
