Re: System Gone Crazy - Pro x64 - The RPC Server is Unavailable

Drew,

It is correct to install Windows XP x64 SP2 through Windows Update and it

should work.

I understood that the OP had tried it that way so I suggested a safer method

in order to ensure that the "Access is Denied" prompt was not due to data

corruption.

So my advice was to download manually and unRAR in order to ensure data

integrity.

Downloaded file seems to be Ok so far.

There is something else in his PC that I have not been able to figure out

that is causing the dreaded "Access is Denied" thing.

Hi

I simply upgraded to Vista-Ultimate 64. (Trial - 30 days)

I have Vista Basic on the other partition, and dont have Aero on it!

I like Aero, and please let me know how to enable it on Vista Basic.

I tried several methods to enable it, such as the info available at the

following link, but has not worked!

http://www.walkernews.net/2007/05/03/enable-windows-aero-interface-in-vista-home-basic/

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Hemanth,

Vista Home Basic does not have Aero included at all, and it cannot be

enabled. With a WDDM graphics card, the best you can hope for is the choice

of colours without glass by using the Vista Standard scheme.

Hi

I have heard it is possible, and there are so many websites on how to enable

Aero on Vista Basic. But none worked for me.

Are you 100% sure that Aero can not be enabled on Vista Basic?

Windows/Resources/Themes has Aero in it. What is it for?

Re: System Gone Crazy - Pro x64 - The RPC Server is Unavailable

It can't be done.

Ignore the aero.theme and aero.msstyles - they are in every edition of

Vista. Methinks they were given that name before the differences between

features in editions were decided. They could quite easily have been named

vista.theme, vista.msstyles instead. Perhaps if they had a different name

there would not be so many people erroneously claiming that 'Aero' can be

enabled in Home Basic.

There are subtle differences between those files in Home Basic and those in

Ultimate, but I suspect there is more going on in the background. There are

probably other protected system files involved in the use of Aero/Flip 3D

etc.

At the end of the day, altering any files would not be a good idea. For one

thing, Windows File Protection would scream, and for another it could be

classed as 'reverse engineering', which is against the EULA.
