Guest mikeg Posted November 2, 2007 Posted November 2, 2007 Explorer.exe crashes and restarts on one of my Windows 2000 Server SP4 servers, whenever I attempt to change any file or folder (delete, move, copy, rename, etc.) in Windows Explorer. You can browse folders with no problem, but if you try to change anything Windows Explorer and all desktop icons disappear without displaying any error and the desktop icons return after Explorer.exe restarts a few seconds later. The only way to make file and folder changes is in a CMD Window. At first I suspected a bad user profile, but this happens no matter what user account we use. Unfortunately this problem started such a long time ago (more than a year) I couldn't begin to remember what changed beforehand. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Guest mikeg Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Re: Explorer.exe Crashes Thanks for the helpful links. Do you think a manual repair of Windows (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238359/) would be worth trying before doing an in-place upgrade? In any case, since this is a SQL Server multiple copies of double-tested backups are obviously in order. <s>
Guest Dave Patrick Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Re: Explorer.exe Crashes Since the OS starts you would get the same effect by running; sfc /purgecache sfc /scannow I doubt that this will fix the problem. You can also try re-applying the latest service pack and rollup but again I doubt this will fix the problem. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup.
