IDE Controller Problems

Recommended Posts

Hello all I just recently put two more drives in my pc, and in order to do

that I needed an IDE controller so I went out and bought one. I used the IDE

controller cd-rom to install the driver and it installed the "Silicon image

SiI 0680 ATA/133 RAID Controller" but I still cant see my drives , not even

in the storage manager, I flashed my bios on my M2N-SLI Deluxe to the newest

one and it's still not working. I have four drives two of which are plugged

into the controller. I've tried installing different versions of the driver

but when I update it says that the currently installed driver is better. I

now notice that I have a section in the control panel named Silicon Image ATA

Controllers. I opened the panel up and there are the tabs "device info" and

"Flash BIOS" and an empty window above saying "Avalible Controllers" with

none listed, all options in this panel are grayed out.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be much appreciated.

Re: IDE Controller Problems

I have not tried using a card like that for pure IDE hard drives unless they

were RAID'ed. First thought that comes to mind is that you need to enter

BIOS Setup when booting and configure your HD's to the actual connectors

where they are attached, and make sure that all connectors that don't have

anything attached are disabled. In fact, it's a good idea (not neccessarily

for this issue?) to disable anything in your BIOS that you are not using -

like serial and parallel ports and stuff.

It may be a good idea to read the BIOS section of your motherboard manual

carefully so you don't miss anything obvious.

AND! - perhaps you should pull any USB flash drives and card-readers before

your first boot?
