How to buy Windows XP Pro x64?

Hello everyone. I am in the process of building a new machine which will

use the AMD Athlon64 X2 processor. I'm also going to be adding 4GB of DDR2

RAM, mostly because it's cheap to do so but also because it will benefit my

primary application (Adobe Photoshop CS3). Problem is, of course my current

OS (WinXP Pro) will not address the entire 4GB.

I am now thinking of installing WinXP Pro x64 in a dual-boot config with my

other WinXP. For starters this is mostly an experiment but I don't mind it

all. What I don't have clear is where or how to buy this version of

Windows. It appears you have to buy it already installed on some name-brand

computer (ie, Dell, IBM, Alienware) in lieu of buying just the software

off-the-shelf. Can someone enlighten me on this? TIA.

You can buy an OEM single copy. Google for ZAT-00124.

Officially, it must be supplied with either a complete system or a

"nonperipheral hardware component" - which means a component that will be an

integral part of the fully assembled computer system on which the individual

software license will be installed. This could be just a data or power

cable.

Any of the following retailers will be happy to sell you an OEM version.

http://www.ncix.com

http://www.planetamd64.com

http://www.zipzoomfly.com

http://www.newegg.com

http://www.directron.com

There are numerous other sources, but these are all ones I know and trust.
