I was working away and then I noticed I had not internet connection, so I

restarted the computer and still not internet connection, I restart the

router and switch and still no connection, I turned on my laptop which is

plugged into the router and that worked fine, so I unplugged the cable from

the back of the computer and things came right, strange, I don't know what's

going on here

RE: Internet Connection

Clayton:

I had a similar problem so this workaround might help you.

On every reboot I would lose my Internet connection because I had a red

cross on the network icon (systray), signaling unplugged network cable!

A new reboot would fix things.

This had a 50% ocurrence.

Googling around the Internet I found a workaround that, so far, has been

100% effective.

I am not at my Vista machine so I will describe it for XP, translating what

I see from Spanish into English.

Right click on My PC icon on desktop and choose Manage.

Local Users and Groups

Groups

Right-Click on Administrators (right pane)

Add to group

Add

Advanced

Search Now

Select "Local Services" and Accept as many types as necessary.

That did it in my PC.

Re: Internet Connection

Thanks, I'll give that a go, one other thing is my laptop is doing a smiliar

thing but with wireless I have been getting limited or no connectivity and

are unable to do any internet stuff so I dissconnect from the router and try

to connect to a network but nothing shows up, the only way I can get back on

is to restart the computer until it happens again. when this happenned I

went into network connections and right clicked on the wireless icon and it

says Enable so I guess it became disabled,

I don't know why, the wireless switch is on and all that, I tried to enable

the wireless connection but nothing happens.

Wired connection is ok

Re: Internet Connection

Clayton,

Wireless driver issue, maybe?

I used to have frequent disconnections in my old XP laptop with Linksys

PCMCIA wireless adapter, even if it was side by side with the router antennas.

Linksys would not release any new wireless drivers so I started to google

for my issue.

It seemed very common for those having my WMP54G wireless adapter.

I downloaded a newer driver for another brand of adapter (not Linksys)

according to recommendation in some forum.

Voila! It worked and now I don't have any wireless issues.

Will there be an updated driver for you somewhere?

Re: Internet Connection

I use to have a Linksys router and it would disconnect several times a day,

dumped it and brought a 3Com never had any issues with it on a few wireless

notebooks here only on very rare occisions when I am on the cordless phone

and someone starts up their computer it would not connect to wireless and

sometimes would disconnect when I answer the phone, since then I purchased

the newer model 3Com all in one router and it's been 100% reliable.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand, I went to my brothers last weekend and he

has the same router as I have and it was doing the same there which leeds me

to believe it maybe a driver issue, I have removed the drivers for the

wireless card and reinstalled them, but that hasn't fixed it.

My switch on the laptop that turns wireless off and on also controls the

bluetooth device, I have changed the bluetooth mouse today and will see what

happens, had the notebook for 2 years now and don't really use it for

wireless as it sits in my office most of the time wired to the router.

Back to your Local and User Groups, I was in there an noticed that in the

User folder the Administrator Account was disabled, so I unchecked the tick

from Account is disabled in Administrator Properties, don't know if that

will make any differences
