Number of people using WinXP 64 (growing)

From the inquiries about drivers for WinXP 64 you would think companies

would be supporting it better.Maybe a few "nudges" from Microsoft would

help. The system is rock solid for me.I don't understand the "lack of

support for a 64 bit system".

"nudges" from consumers who want Windows XP 64 bit support would

probably have more effect than Microsoft.

After all it is the customers and not Microsoft that puts $ in their

pockets.

In the end, the manufacturer decides what to support and if they want

to listen to their customers or not.

I suggest if you have to change products because of lack of support,

inform the manufacturer in written paper why you purchased a

competitors product.

Re: Number of people using WinXP 64 (growing)

I have to agree in regard to my 64 Bit Vista O/S. Absolutely rock solid

performance for me. I love it and find that almost everything I do with it

works perfectly. But every once in awhile something doesn't work. For

Example the shiny new I phone I bought at full price just after it came out.

I had that thing for a day only to find out it wouldn't work on my O/S.

When I posted a comment about this on Apples Newsgroup support sight asking

if there were plans to support 64 Bit Vista it was promptly deleted! Any

inclination I ever had to buy an Mac or anything else Apple was promptly

squashed that day. It will NEVER happen.

Well, now I have an HTC tilt running Windows Mobile 6. It does so much more

than the I phone it's a joke. It also cost about $200.00 less while doing

it AND it works seamlessly with my 64 Bit Vista. I downloaded Zune,

purchased a ton of Music which also synced up perfectly with my new Windows

based phone.

I have the very bad taste of a rotten Apple left to deal with. But all in

all I ended up in a better position just sticking with the Microsoft

products.

Re: Number of people using WinXP 64 (growing)

There is still a perception that there are too many problems or lack of

drivers and support and "luke warm reception" in media and chat groups out

there (preaching to the choir here though).

Learning curve for developers. Sales numbers. Intel and AMD support with

tools and compilers and easing the transition.

With every new step forward, code breaks so it has to be gradual thing.

Apple's Leopard "broke" most storage controllers, poor graphic drivers, and

lots of issues with it for many, but not everyone. Happens every time.

Inertia. Only a small subset of Photoshop users need more than the 3.5GB of

RAM user space it offers now as a 32-bit style program and until they (and

others) see their base clamoring at the gate, their resources will have to

go into what is happening today.

People don't like to plan 4 what is down the road years ahead. And "how

does it impact our bottom line this quarter?" immediate gain, instant

gratification, and profile.

One reason I think Vista's 64-bit works so well might be because developers

had to take a new approach writing code and drivers.
