Compress Old Files utility is gone

Hello-

I have a laptop with Windows 2000 Pro loaded on it-I've noticed that when I

use the disk cleanup utility that it doesn't have 'compress old files' or

'old chkdsk files' listed on the submenu. Since I bought this laptop used,

I'm assuming that a previous owner had this option removed via the registry.

Is there a way to get these options back using the Windows 2000 CD or does

this involve tooling around in the registry? Thanks for any response.

AFAIR, Windows 2000 never had a native compress tool.

No it just didn't have "Zip folders", it did have NTFS compression.

The Disk Cleanup tool in Windows 2000 stops responding while it scans

old files for compression

You would need to export the key from a working install, and import it.
