Ignore the 2008 web forums, web forums are evil ;-) Regards, John Visit my blog: http://msmvps.com/blogs/jtoner "Hamdan" <Hamdan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:C2951E59-684E-404F-9021-1B9A1F97EA97@microsoft.com... > Hi i am new to the technet - and a bit curious about forums where we can > discuss different topics and post questions - I went to the main technet > forum but cant seem to find any suitable place for server OS i.e. 2k / 2k3 i > did see one for 2k8 but you know... any suggestions?

Hi - Microsoft doesn't have version-specific newsgroups for server products. This group is fine. Just make sure to always specify your versions and SP levels of everything when you post in a server group. Additionally, this isn't a forum - it's usenet, aka an internet newsgroup. Try using a news client, such as Forte Agent, Thunderbird, or even Outlook Express, rather than the clunky web interface to the newsgroups. It's a lot easier to do nearly everything that way. You can mark messages to be watched, filter the views so you can see replies to your posts easily, and search. The Microsoft public news server is msnews.microsoft.com and you can subscribe to as many groups as you like; no authentication is required. The following is from a post by MVP Malke ... ------------------------------------------------------- Here's information on Usenet and using a newsreader: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page3.html#12-09-02 - a brief explanation of newsgroups http://michaelstevenstech.com/outlo...ssnewreader.htm http://rickrogers.org/setupoe.htm http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...wto/default.asp - Set Up Newsreader http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://aumha.org/nntp.htm - list of MS newsgroups microsoft.public.test.here - MS group to test if your newsreader is working properly http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm - how to munge email address http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm - multiposting vs. crossposting Some newsreaders for Windows http://www.forteinc.com/agent/index.php - for Forte http://www.mozilla.org (Thunderbird does newsgroups) http://gravity.tbates.org/ -------------------------------------

Hey and thanks alot for all the information - i have been ont his news group a day and find it very help full couple questions that i had: 1. Can i configure this newgroup in Outlook 07 - that is what i am using and that way wont have to toggle between outlook express and outlook 2. usually during the day i am VPN into the company network what i find is when i VPN in i cant view anything - anyone know how to get around this 3. finally in a forum whever there is a thread going and someone adds a post to it - peopel accessing the forum can usually click a link that says view all new posts - so that they can see what the latest new posts and reply posts are - how does that work here - i.e. how will people using this news group know i am typing this very message as a sub post to my oroginal post? There are allegedly add-ins for it, but I don't know or use them. I would go with something other than OE too, if you really plan to use the groups heavily. > > 2. usually during the day i am VPN into the company network what i > find is when i VPN in i cant view anything - anyone know how to get > around this Please post that as a new message with full details, not as part of your reply in an existing/unrelated thread, to get the most eyes on your question. > > 3. finally in a forum whever there is a thread going and someone adds > a post to it - peopel accessing the forum can usually click a link > that says view all new posts - so that they can see what the latest > new posts and reply posts are - how does that work here - i.e. how > will people using this news group know i am typing this very message > as a sub post to my oroginal post? Because they're using newsreaders and the view will show them the whole thread when they expand it (plus sign, usually). > > > "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" wrote: > >> Hamdan <Hamdan@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: >>> Hi i am new to the technet - and a bit curious about forums where we >>> can discuss different topics and post questions - I went to the main >>> technet forum but cant seem to find any suitable place for server OS >>> i.e. 2k / 2k3 i did see one for 2k8 but you know... any suggestions? >> >> Hi - Microsoft doesn't have version-specific newsgroups for server >> products.
