Long reboot times

Recommended Posts

Sometimes when I restart it will literally take hours for it come back up.

This seems to occur randomly but I have noticed that it definitely happens

when I install new software. I can't even get it into safe mode when this

happens.

I have 64-Bit ultimate

Intel Boxdx38bt Motherboard

Core 2 Quad 6600

4GB DDR3 Ram

RE: Long reboot times

BCW,

Two ideas come to my mind:

#1 - Check Event Viewer, located in Administrative Tools

Look in "Applications" and "System" in the Windows logs section and try to

find red crosses, yellow warnings, long delay startup services, etc.

#2 - Check for unnecessary programs/services during startup. Fire up

msconfig (Windows Key + "R", msconfig <ENTER>) and check

a- Startup tab. Make a revision of what programs are loaded during startup

and delete those you don't need.

b- Services Tab. Check "Hide all Microsoft Services" and see what

unnecessary services are being loaded.

I am translating my Windows from Spanish into English so some of the menues

or buttons names, check boxes may differ slightly.
