Guest E-Double Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 A standalone Win2000 Pro/sp4 machine cannot be logged on to either in normal or safe mode as the error "The system cannot log you on now because the domain xxx is not available" as detailed in KB Article 824302. I contacted MS Support and they sent me two .EXE files that apparently fix the problem, but how are these fixes supposed to be run if the machine cannot be logged on to? The Readme.txt file just says to refer to the KB article - which does not really have instructions. I also tried booting to a CD but they would not run that way either. In addition I remotely edited the registry from another machine changing the WinLogonCache value to 0, as well as manually copied all of the DLL's from the KB article from a functional machine to the problem machine, but to no avail. Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.
Guest Dave Patrick Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Re: Logon Error from KB 824302 You'll have to ask PS when you can them back. Did they recommend the reghacks and file replacements in the manner you describe? -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest E-Double Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Re: Logon Error from KB 824302 No, the file replacement thing I just tried on my own after reviewing the KB article and the reghack was a suggestion from a forum I found where the person had the same problem. The person from MS did not speak english very well and did not seem like a technical person but rather an administrative front line support person so I did not get too far there. e. Guest Dave Patrick Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 Re: Logon Error from KB 824302 Well the free support option is probably out of bounds now. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest E-Double Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Re: Logon Error from KB 824302 Why would that be - I did not make the issue any worse, and there has to be some sort of fix for this problem as it appears I am not the only one who has experienced it. e. Guest E-Double Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Re: Logon Error from KB 824302 p.s. And I don't think that actually supplying instructions for the hotfixes they sent would have been asking for too much there. Somebody else suggested booting to a PE CD and then running the hotfixes, but when we tried that we received an 'Update.inf file not available.' Guest Dave Patrick Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Re: Logon Error from KB 824302 I don't see how you could possibly know that. You'll just have to ask them when you call back; but I wouldn't mention the reghack and files you swapped. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup.
