I run Windows 2000 Professional on my computer. Most of the time it shuts

down without any problem whatsoever but SOMETIMES it 'hangs up' ---

After the window that says "saving your personal settings..." disappears, I

can hear the hard drives stopping but the screen remains the same color and I

can still see the cursor only I cannot move it. I have to resort to using the

power supply switch to manually shut down the system, when I start the

computer again everything is fine and it does not do any error checks on the

hard drives.

At first I thought it was the power supply's problem so I replaced it but

the problem still exists. The weirdest part of all this is that it seems the

problem occurs or does not depending on the programs I run and how frequently

I run them - for instance, if I use the computer to type an essay and view a

few webpages it would shut down normally, but if I play a large game for,

say, a half hour, the problem almost always occurs.

P.S. Sorry for my long post but I found it hard to describe :-)

Re: Funny shutdown problem

Hello,

i can be a lot of differents problems, for exemple memory or hard drive or

your computer is too hot and dont answer anymore. what you need to check is

the temperature of the computer. if all is ok then try to make a chkdsk of

your boot partition. and at the end try also to make a check of your memory.

it can also be a driver problem. for this look in the event viewer, maybe

you can see an error? did you have the lastest drivers for your computer?

service pack for windows2000 ???
