Removing hardware from Win98

For the past several months I have been trying to remove an NEC Multimedia

keyboard from my computer. I have tried everything I can think of, and also

joined forums to try to find someone with the same problem. Everytime you

remove it from the system (even having gone into the registry and startup

menu) whenever you switch back on it comes up 'windows has found new

hardware'. Anyone have similar problems?

Most, if not all of the multimedia keyboards came with specific setup files

and applications. The reason for the continual 'finding' of the keyboard is

that the INF file is still located in the C:\WINDOWS\INF\ directory.

If you can't find the uninstall for it [generally these broads created

directories under \Program Files\ {something}\ for their special functions]

then use Find upon the INF directory for that specific device. Once found,

go back into Device Manager and again remove the keyboard, however, before

shutting down, also remove the INF file found from the WINDOWS\INF\

directory. Restart the computer, and it should install the default keyboard.

NOTE: if you are still using any of the programs/applications for that

keyboard, they will generally cease to function and must be removed. One of

those boards I had previously, would remove its drivers upon removal of its

application(s), might want to check that.
