Please post an ipconfig /all from the dc and the 2000 machine. Also check that the firewall on the dc is not enabled. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Re: Windows 2000 can't join Windows server 2003 PDC Hello ViNC3 via WinServerKB.com, You are using a single label domain name which is not the best solution and can create a lot of problems. And Computers that are running Windows 2000 with SP4 will not register in a single-label domain. Have a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300684 Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Hi Meinolf, > > Domain Name : WORLDGROUP > > Win server 2003 DC : ipconfig > ip address : 10.10.40.86 > subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 > Default Gateway : 10.10.40.253 > Win2000 > ip addresses : 10.10.40.147 > subnet mask : 255.255.255.0 > Default Gateway : 10.10.40.253 > By using win2000, i'm able to ping the Domain Controller IP which is > 10.10.40. > 86 > but when i tried to join domain : WORLDGROUP, it.s just display that > error > looking for domain WORLDGROUP. > what do i need to do? > > thanks and regards, > ViNC3 > Meinolf Weber wrote: > >> Hello ViNC3 via WinServerKB.com, >> >> Can you ping the server by its ip address? Guest ViNC3 via WinServerKB.com Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 Re: Windows 2000 can't join Windows server 2003 PDC Hi Meinolf, the reason i am using single label domain is because previously the old server's WinNT4.0 are using single domain as well, so the senior here asked me to use the same name to replace the old one. by any chance, the windows 2000 have any cache to store temporary for domain name even after we disconnected the old NT4.0 and plug in the new one with the same domain name? thanks and regards, Vince Meinolf Weber wrote: >Hello ViNC3 via WinServerKB.com, > >You are using a single label domain name which is not the best solution and >can create a lot of problems. Guest ViNC3 via WinServerKB.com Posted February 13, 2008 Posted February 13, 2008 Re: Windows 2000 can't join Windows server 2003 PDC Hi Meinolf, i have read through the article you gave, but in the article, it doesn't shows how windows 2000 clear cache. i will try to clarify the problem i am facing, previously this company have a PDC (windows NT 4.0) with domain name (WORLDGROUP) with a few Server (windows 2000) connected to the domain network as member of the domain. Now they want to replace the old NT 4.0 machine to new machine with (windows server 2003) so firstly, i install the windows server 2003 with domain name (WORLDGROUPC) then link it to the network. after that, i have migrated from the NT 4.0 (WORLDGROUP) to WIN2003 (WORLDGROUPC) then after that, they said they want to use WORLDGROUP as the domain name, so i have rename the Domain Name from WORLDGROUPC to WORLDGROUP by using Microsoft Domain Renaming Tool. After that, by using one of the serverABC with windows 2000 that connected to the domain. i disjoin the ServerABC from domain WORLDGROUP and simply join a workgroup, then i disconnect the old NT (WORLDGROUP) machine from the network and connect the new Win2003 (WORLDGROUP) *after renaming* machine to the network. After that, i disjoin the serverABC windows 2000 from workgroup, and try to join back to WORLDGROUP, but this time, is the new machine win2003 with the same Domain Name. The serverABC just wouldn't join, it keep on showing the domain Name WORLDGROUP couldn't not be found. (it seem like the serverABC win2000 still have some cache memory that referring back to the old (winNT) WORLDGROUP instead of the new (win2003)WORLDGROUP. i have tried to use XP machine to join the new WORLDGROUP win2003, and everything works fine, only win2000 seem to kept on referring back to the old (winNT) WORLDGROUP. it seem kinda confusing, but this is what really happend in this company right now >.< thanks for spending your time to help, really appreciated it. regards, Vince Meinolf Weber wrote: >Hello ViNC3 via WinServerKB.com, > >If you go deeper in the article you see that it contains a workaround's for >XP 2003 and also 2000. > >Best regards > >Meinolf Weber >Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers >no rights. >** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups >** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > >> Hi Meinolf, >> > >>>>>> regards, >>>>>> Vin -- Message posted via http://www.winserverkb.com
