Guest aa Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 My computer when turned on, shows as usually the first screen with the BIOS data and withthe option to press Delete to go into BIOS settings. Then as normally it shoew the second screen about the disks and PCI devices listing and hangs there (I took a picture of that screem and placed here: http://www.pifpaf.front.ru/screenshot.htm I rebooted to machine several times - the same, and when I was about to drop the hope affter 10 or 15 attempts, it booted normally. What might be the problem and how do I fix it so that it will not hang again? I guess this might be not related toWindows, if this is the case, which NG should I go please?

Weak or failing Power Supply. -or- failing Motherboard. Inspect the motherboard for swollen or leaking capacitors. Swollen caps will have a rounded top ... leaking caps will have brown sludge on top or atg the base. -- Posted via NewsDemon.com - Premium Uncensored Newsgroup Service ------->>>>>>http://www.NewsDemon.com<<<<<<------ Unlimited Access, Anonymous Accounts, Uncensored Broadband Access
Guest aa Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Re: hangs on booting Thank you. Visually I cannot detect swollen or leaking capacitors. How do I check if the Power Supply is weak or failing? Guest aa Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Re: hangs on booting "Ben Myers" Try running a disk diagnostic on the boot drive. Maxtor and Seagate http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/ Western Digital http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?cxml=n&pid=999&swid Ben I have wdc wd800BB-00fja0 HD and I entered this into the search box on WD site. It returned a long list of software, all seems irrelevant, at least by their names. Any idea of how this diagnostic program might be called?

Download and run http://support.wdc.com/download/dlg/DlgDiagv504c.exe It should create a bootable floppy you can use on the computer with the problem. Ben
