Start, run===> msconfig

now go to the boot.ini tab and have it check all install paths

assuming win98 is gone, you can have it automatically remove that entry.

if win98 is still there, you can just delete the win98 option

WinXP prefers the NTFS hard drive format which

Win98 cannot use. So one way out of your problem

may be to boot WinXP, then use it to reformat drive C

in NTFS. If unsure that you can safely lose everything

on drive C:, you could clone all its contents somewhere

else for the time being.

Boot into Windows XP. Do Start / Control Panel / System and select the

Advanced tab. If the XP bootmanager is managing your startup you will see

two options listed under Default Operating System.

You can select XP as the default and set the wait time to a smaller value,

such as 5 seconds, or you can choose to edit the startup options manually,

and remove the line referring to W98. The edit option opens the startup

configuration file in Notepad - be sure to save any changes you have made

when closing notepad.

If some other bootmanager is managing your startup you need to find out what

it is and use the facilities within that utility to change the options.

OP should not do anything that may affect the W98 system files while W98 is

still an option available at system boot. The correct sequence is to remove

the unwanted operating system as a boot option before touching any of its

files.

is it bugging you??? is your system running fine? how big is your hard-drive?

many many ppl have two o/s's, including me. when i reboot, i get the 'choice' of whether to boot

into xp or 98,, and i simply choose.

it has many advantages to have what is known as a dual-boot system.

personally, i have my xp in fat32, that way my win98 can see xp as well as xp seeing 98,,,,

others here may prefer to have their xp in ntfs,, different strokes for different folks.

either way, dont have a heart attack, read some replies that will follow,, its not the end of the

world, but rather a door to another.

chill.
