Guest Urge Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I was setting up a LAN in my home and when I turned on 1 computer running win2k I got the CTRL+ALT+Delete screen and then it wanted a passport. I swear, I have NEVER put a password on this machine and I have had it since2002. This has to be related to setting up the LAN. Bill

I have always logged on using the admin acct, it is the only one on the machine. > - Which account do you use now? see above > - Have you tried logging on as "Administrator"? see above > - Have you tried a blank password? Yes, I tried that. I am getting ready to try Windows Password Recovery now, the web site says it will take 3 days for the results to come back but thats OK with me. I just don't understand why or how it would/could decide on its own to put in a password? > >

I am sure you have at least two sets of keys for your car, for obvious reasons, so it makes sense to apply the same thought to your PC.
Guest Urge Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Re: locked out by a LAN? I tried http://www.loginrecovery.com/ but it couldn't recover the password. Next I tried http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.htm after the suggestion by Pegasus (MVP) and it worked, although not the way they talked about. I couldn't reset the password but I was able to elevate a user to an administrator and then get rid of the unknown password. Thanks Pegasus! Guest Pegasus \(MVP\) Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Re: locked out by a LAN? Thanks for the feedback. So far I have always been able to reset the administrator's password to a blank when using the Nordahl boot disk. Other combinations may or may not work.
