Two things I noticed right away :

1: Sleep mode is still broken on my machine as it takes almost 5 mins. to

connect after coming out of sleep mode.

Any ideas how I can get my internet connection to "awake-up" faster (marvel

Yukon drivers latest version applied)

2: Views set in folders still do not hold.

I am not counting the very slow boot-up,(about 5mins give or take 30

sec).that still has not changed either.

I know one of the culprits is the "new" AVG 8.0. It takes 94 secs to load

according to windows.

You don't want to hear this, but dump the Marvel. Buy an Intel GigE NIC and

you'll have a lot fewer issues. It's not instant, but it's less than 30

seconds, certainly.

Also, use a fixed IP address - this will help, since it doesn't have to

query for an address.

Re: Vista with Sp1 applied

Yeah, the fixed IP address is a good solution.

I've done it that way in my home network, compelled initially by having to

open some bit-torrent ports in my router that require you to set fixed ip

addresses for the pc's.

Later on I noticed a speed in network startup because the router and my PC

didn't have any address to negotiate.

I can also recall that I had to make a tweak because the red cross on the

network icon (systray) would take some time to disappear.

I had to enable "Local Service" as owner in I don't know what (maybe when I

get back home I will find it in my notes).

That sped up the "retreat" of the red cross on the icon forever.

An IT geek told me that it was a bad idea because it opened the door to some

obscure things.

Another thing I would do to speed boot up time is to fire up "msconfig" and

see what's in there.

I would bet that Kue2 would find:

1.- jusched.exe (unnecessary updates checker for Sun Java)

2.- NeroFiltercheck.exe or some other Nero*.exe crap (also unnecessary)

3.- some adobe reader speed up program

4.- etc., etc., etc.

Later on I would use "Autoruns" from sysinternals (typing

http://www.sysinternals.com redirects you to the proper Microsoft site).

No problems here with my Marvel Yukon :) Agree on the fixed IP though. We

always use fixed IPs on the network.

Hi Jane

Even after fixing my ip & disabling start-up programs in Msconfig It still

takes 4mins before I am able to get mail or use IE7 upon a cold boot.I start

timing when my desktop first appears.

I wonder if you could be so kind as to send me your settings in properties

for the marvel drives. Maybe some settings are not right in there.

Thanks

Re: Vista with Sp1 applied

Hugh,

I found my notes for speeding up the startup of the network service.

Here it goes:

Right click "Computer"

Click "Manage"

Under the "System Tools" section, Double click "Local Users and Groups"

Click "Groups"

Right click "Administrators"

Click "Add to group..."

Click "Add"

Click "Advanced"

Click "Find Now"

Double click "Local Service"

Click "Ok"

"NT Authority\Local Service" should show up in the list now

Click "Ok"

Close Computer Management and reboot

:)

Re: Vista with Sp1 applied

Hi Carlos

Thanks for your help

"NT Authority\Local Service is already listed.{:-((((

Fixed IP did not help either

I unloaded a alot stuff as you recommended but my problems persist.

Are there settings in the registry for internet connectivity? Where are they

located?

Maybe I have a setting somewhere that's not right.

Thanks

Re: Vista with Sp1 applied

Hugh,

I left everything as default after install. No altering any settings at

all. I have it checked to turn off the device to save power, but not to

wake on LAN.

I even chanced updated drivers offered via Windows Update.

My NIC is the Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet

Controller.

Driver version is showing 10.51.1.9, although the yk60x64.sys file

properties show as 10.51.1.3. (Dated 6 December 2007)

Re: Vista with Sp1 applied

Jane

Thanks,

Mine is the same as yours:My NIC is the Marvel Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI

Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

Mine is dated 21/02/2008 Driver version 10.55.3.3.

Once it's connected everything is fine,it still takes around 4 minutes to be

able to do anything.....email or IE.

I unchecked the energy saving, but otherwise default. I tried checking it

made no difference

I did not have this problem before SP1,the internet always connected first &

I was able to surf or get e-mail right away.

The boot-time over all on my machine was always on the slow side, but now

it's like a turtle.

Once booted the system seems very responcesive & internet is solid.

I guess I'll have to live with it this way till I get a new machine .

Thanks for your reply.
