Hi

I'm buying a new machine soon which will have Vista Home Premium, 64 bit.

One of my favourite programmes is Google Earth, and it's own website says it

doesn't work with 64 bit systems (although some users seem to have found

workarounds). Is it possible with Vista to tell some programmes to work in

32 bit mode? Or does anyone here already run GE on such a system?

Thanks

RE: Google Earth

Hi,

My kids run Google Earth on Vista x64 Ultimate with no problems.

Should apply also to Vista Home Premium.

I haven't had any problems with it either. No special install or any other

changes.

It works great with Vista x64 (Ultimate) here. Maybe they have problems with

certain systems, I'm not sure. But, I don't have any issues whatsoever with

it.

Strange, their own website says it doesn't work. Oh well, I'll find out in

due course.

Thanks for the replies

Maybe they mean it doesn't run in *pure only* 64 bit mode...

At one time it didn't work on X64, but that was years ago. I did check

and you are correct that the website says 64 bit OS are not supported.

However, in the release note, there is more up to date information:

------------------

- Google Earth supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server

2003, and

Windows XP-x64.

- Google Earth has been tested on Windows Vista(Beta 2 Build 5308) and

is

supported (Beta 3 and above has not been tested). To complete the

Google

Earth install process on Vista using a Standard User account, a Local

Administrator password must be used.

- Google Earth does not support Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE,

Windows ME or older operating systems.

Hi, Miso.

Google Earth runs fine on my Vista Ultimate x64 SP1, even in IE8 beta 1,

except that Google MAPS display is weird in IE8b1. (Several of us have

reported this in the IE8 beta newsgroup.)

Actually, of course, Google Earth itself is still beta, according to Help |

About:

I don't find the release note that you quoted, but we were testing "Windows

Vista(Beta 2 Build 5308)" about 2 years ago.

No problems with Google Earth on my system either (Vista x64 Ultimate) -

simply installed it.

It is strangely addictive and I have relived many childhood memories

tracking places I once knew and old addresses where I once lived.

Google Earth

I have a 64-bit SP1 Windows Vista Home Premium and Google Earth does NOT work with it. All I get is blurry images in either rendering format. Suggestions welcome.

Re: Google Earth

Hi, Jeff.

Google Earth works fine in my Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. To give you any

meaningful help, we'll need to know a lot more about your computer than what

you've told us so far - which is nothing. :>(

When I click Help in Google Earth, then About Google Earth, I get a box with

this info:

Google Earth 4.2.0205.5730

Build Date Nov 13 2007

Build Time 17:56:09

Renderer DirectX 8

Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)

Video Driver 00001002 (00007.00014.00010.00597)

Max Texture Size 4096x4096

Server kh.google.com

What do you see in that box?

Please tell us at least the make and model of your computer, or of the

motherboard/chipset/BIOS if you built it yourself. And tell us about the

graphics card and monitor. One good way to collect this information is to

press Start, type "dxdiag", and press Enter. This runs the DirectX

Diagnostic Tool (included in Vista), which tell us more than most of us need

to know about our graphics hardware and software. It takes several seconds

to complete, so wait for it. Then, if you like, you can click the box to

also Run 64-bit DxDiag. Check out each tab, or just Next Page. The second

tab, "Display", is probably the most important to diagnosis your problem.

We don't need to know EVERYTHING about your rig, but at least tell us about

the parts that might affect your Google Earth display.

Google Maps also work fine in my IE7 (x86), but they do not display

correctly for me in IE8 Beta 1. That's not too surprising in a beta

browser, and they are aware of this; we hope it will work right in Beta 2,

due Real Soon Now. Google Earth is a 32-bit application; I've not yet

figured out how to load it into 64-bit IE7.
