Can you install Office Ultimate on a 64bit R2 Windows 2003 server in TS mode?

No. Only the Enterprise version is supported in TS mode. For that version,

you need to be a software assurance (SA) customer.

Yes, even for a company of 5. You can buy a VL version of Office, with

software assurance, for as few as 5 units. I'm NOT a licensing person, but

if you contact any of the major online retailers that focus on business

customers (CDW comes to mind), they can help you choose the right product.

 

I don't much LIKE the rules on Office applications on Terminal Services, but

then, MS didn't ask my opinion. :(

So what you are saying is that I have to have an Enterprise version of Office

Ultimate AND they need to be a software assurance customer? What would that

roughly cost for a company of 5? I know you probably think some of these

question are silly but I really appreciate your input and time.

I have no idea what the cost is. But if you have a Professional Plus

version, with SA, you can get Enterprise for "free". (It's one of the

benefits of SA.) You can also get this by converting an OEM Pro version, I

think, by adding SA to it.

 

Honestly, I'm not a licensing guy. And personally, I happen to prefer Office

2k3 for my uses.

Now what if we purchased an Open License for 5 users for the terminal server

can we use those same 5 licenses on their dekstops in the office? In theory

they wont be on the TS server and their desktops at the same time so they

should be able to set it up that way. Correct?

probably not. Licenses are per user, for office. You _may_ have the right to

run a second copy on a home machine. But not on the same network I'm sure.
