IE6 makes a screeching sound whenever it is opened

I reformatted an older laptop and put the original Windows 2000 back on, but

upgraded to IE6. Whenever I open Internet Explorer there is a high-pitched

screeching sound in the background, from the minute IE opens until it

closes, no matter the web-site. If it is closed there is no noise.

What on earth could cause this and how do I stop it!!!

Possibly some bad hardware. Try disabling the onboard sound device in cmos

setup.

That's a bizarre one :-)

Make sure you install Service Pack 4 and then any and all updates from

http://update.microsoft.com

After that be sure to install the latest drivers for your devices such as

your video card, sound card and network card.

I suspect after that IE won't screech anymore :-)

Best;

Dave
