I suspect that this machine was previously joined to a

domain. You must now use the password that goes with

one of the local admin accounts.

Are you logging into the correct "user"

try put the old work group name in front of the user name separated by

backslash.

Re: workgroup name change

it has always been a file server. this is the only username & pswd we have. i

tried by adding the old group name to the username but it did not work.

i can log in to it thru terminal server with a user level security but not

as the administrator.

Re: workgroup name change

Log in via TS, then start a Command Prompt. Now type this

command:

net user Administrator

What date does the "Last logon" report?

BTW, having a single admin account on a PC or server is

equivalent to having a single set of keys for your car. Sooner

or later you will be caught out.

Step 1: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html

Step 2: Create at least one extra admin account, test it, then lock

its details away in a safe place.
