DOS print to default printer?

We have a "default" printer created (Lexmark) which works properly from

Windows applications. The printer is connected via the parallel port LPT1.

We have one legacy DOS application that works properly, but the print

output doesn't seem to get directed to the default printer; it just

disappears somewhere.

"dir > lpt1" at the command prompt illustrates the problem, as no

directory listing goes to the printer, nor does any print job spool even

briefly.

Is something special required to print DOS jobs in Windows 2000 please,

and if so, what is it?

Thanks for your help.

Try it with no spaces:

dir>lpt1

If the above works then look in the printer settings in the DOS application.

Or maybe: dir >lpt1

Been awhile since I installed one on Win2000 but, when you installed the

printer, did you elect to load "DOS" support/(or print from DOS

programs) I forget exact phrasing?

In the device manager, open the "ECP Printer Port (LPT1" and then go to the

"Port Settings" tab and make sure that "Enable legacy Plug and Play

detection" is checked.
