windows 2000 pro will attempt to load. The blue bar gets to about 3/4 of the

way, it then stops and goes to the Blue Screen with the following wording:

Cdr4_2K.sys

EB5402E0 base at EB5402E0 date stamp 00000000 cdr4_2K.sys

Driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations.

Can you boot to the Last Known Good Configuration? How about Safe-Mode?

Your problem is caused by Roxio Drag-to_Disc software.

Re: Blue screen problem

Hi John,

Thank you for responding.

Actually I tried both. Boot to last Known Good configuration did not

respond, it just brought me back to the blue screen, however, I have been

able to get into Safe Mode. I just don't know what to do now that I'm in

there.

The other day prior to this problem, I upgraded my Windows media player 7.1.

Now according to some research I did, this was one of the items that could

possibly be the culprit. Last night I uninstalled the media player, however,

it didn't resolve the issue and seems like it may have caused some other

problems.

Re: Blue screen problem

Yes, the problem could have been caused when you upgraded Windows Media

Player, the Cdr4_2K.sys file is included with WMP but it is actually an

Adaptec/Roxio file. Do you have Easy CD Creator installed on the computer?

Re: Blue screen problem

Hi John,

I have Roxio. However, when I go into my Add/Remove programs it doesn't seem

to have the full program in there. what I mean is, the only thing related to

the Roxio program in my add/remove are:

Record Now Copy

Record Now Data

Both are referred to Roxio, and both are listed seperately.

Also, in reference to the windows media player, as I uninstalled ver. 7.

yesterday, I notice that I still have other media player updates for ver. 6

and ver. 7 along with media player 4... should I attempt to uninstall all of

these also? I actually tried to do this yesterday but it wouldn't allow me to.

Re: Blue screen problem

The problem you are having is somewhat similar to the one explained

here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271268 Keep in mind that Roxio

bought Adaptec eons ago and anything refering to Adaptec usually

includes Roxio.

Try removing the Adaptec/Roxio plugin in Media Player. If that doesn't

work the fix to your problem might be to change the Start value from 1

to 3 at these registry keys, but Roxio may not work properly if you

change the start values:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k

The problem with Roxio is that if you are not careful when you try to

remove it or change some of the start values of its components it may

throw an 0x7b error at you when you reboot the computer, that problem is

explained here:

How to troubleshoot "Stop 0x0000007B" error messages in Windows 2000

(A "Stop 0x0000007B" error message occurs after you remove Roxio Easy CD

Creator 5 Platinum)
