DVD/RW Drive & pciidex.sys

I have decided to format and reinstall windows vista 64 bit this morning and

when I booted from DVD drive it said Selected boot device not available, the

DVD drive is a PATA drive, so I connected a SATA DVD drive and it booted

fine, continue with the install and all went well.

I plugged the PATA drive into another computer and tried booting from the

DVD and it booted fine, so I plugged it back into the problem system and now

it boots from the DVD but towards the end of the install I got a BSOD about

pciidex.sys

I then plugged in a PATA CDRW drive and installed XP instead and that

installation went fine, so I am at a lost to figure out my problem, thought

it may have been the PATA DVD drive.

Thanks, but how would I apply the update if I can not get windows installed?

I have added this hard drive to my computer

Clayton,

Based on "so I connected a SATA DVD drive and it booted fine, continue with

the install and all went well." I assumed you had installed windows. Try

that and then install the update after reconnecting the PATA drive.

Re: DVD/RW Drive & pciidex.sys

ok I thought so, thanks for your help

Sometimes I need to boot up with a CD, will I still have problems with the

message "Selected boot device not available" using the PATA drive?

If I change to a SATA drive in future will all my problems dissapear?

cheers

Re: DVD/RW Drive & pciidex.sys

Clayton,

Is your PATA DVD configured as master?

I have run occasionally into problems when trying to boot from "slave"

optical PATAs.

Re: DVD/RW Drive & pciidex.sys

I have used this PATA drive to format and reinstall Vista 64 SP-1 a few

times now without any problems, the only thing I have changed is I have

added this HDD

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=459&language=en so I

think it may have something to do with my problems

I'm going to get a Blu ray SATA drive today anyway.

The drive is set to master
