I get this when I stop a usb device using the Sefely Remove Hardware Icon. "An exception occurred while trying to run Shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll" The device seems to be shut down but running the command Shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll, and then trying to do anything in the pop-up generates the error every time. Any ideas what to check -- what reg key or file might be the prob?

Hi I put my kids logon account on restricted, from administrator, and when I click their name and login the desktop is not quite the same ( icons not layed out the way they have it but all nice and in lines, theirs are splattered all over the place ) and cannot start outlook express. Switch them back to administrator and click their name, icons all over the place and can start outlook. Its as if it is a different account when in restricted mode. Any Ideas ? Cheers

I have no restore disks and the original hard drive was damaged and had to be replaced. Gateway does not offer restore cd's for this and only have the retail one (like I have) to send to me (that does not even have the sata drivers to where I can even install windows on the computer). I know how to change the PID # inside the setupp.ini file, but not sure what it needs to be. The machine is running Windows XP Pro SP3. Installed a few days ago, drivers are all installed, updates are all installed. Lots of programs are already installed, from Dynamic GP to Gtalk to Microsoft Office. When I go into Add or Remove programs it says please wait while this list populates; It, however, regadrless of time open, never brings anything up. If I close it and attempt to open again, add or remove programs will not open unless I restart. I can doube click, and right click - run and I dont get any change. Things I have checked. Does access to an exchange server require WINS? The basis for the question is a bit more complex but here it is... We have a company with two internal domains and each is in it's own forest. Domain 1 is the main domain for the company and controlls servers (DC, Exchange, file, etc.), network CAT5 lines, firewall, and Internet Access. Domain 2 is new and contains one 1 DC. Domain 2 users are accessing the Domain 1 exchange server. The new DC in domain 2 has WINS which is trying to replciate with Domain 1 WINS. After installation of an app (vmware server 2), I can no longer get to the boot screen. I have to boot into safe mode without networking. In safe mode, I cannot uninstall anything. I get Fatal error cx000021a. Yes, I've read and tried the KB on this issue many times to no avail. If I could just uninstall vmware from within safe mode all would be well. -- Don Gollahon

So I get access denied when trying to install sp3. I tried downloading it directly to the my pc and run it still no luck. I have tried disabling my anti-virus & spyware doctor, still no luck. Went to modify the registry but can't back it up because system restore is missing from system properties, and it won't run on its own using the command line from run. I went to rename System Volume Information and reboot to try then. But I can't rename it I get a message saying it's in use or the drive is write protected. Anyone have any suggestions?

How can I uninstall this annoying program and go back to the old WinXP search? WDS 4.0 does NOT appear in Add or Remove Programs. There's got to be a method for uninstalling since I thought I may have inadvertently deleted the KB940157 file from Add or Remove Programs and installed WDS again to see if it would show up. It didn't. However, KB940157 uninstalled the original instance before installing the new. This is on an older XP laptop, and I have no intention of turning on indexing and slowing it down even more. Hi all, I have a multi-site client using Windows Enterprise (32bit) server 2003 in NLB with 2 TS servers. They have various printers on hte remote sites. We have a 10Mb Leased line in the main office with VPN connection to the remote offices. Remote offices have 4Mb Leased lines. Internet traffic is sent via a separate ADSL line and all office work is over the VPN's The VPN is set to allow ALL traffic, so no restrictions on ports etc, all traffic is allow both ways but only through the tunnels (i.e. no direct connection to the internet via the leased lines/routers.) I have a small problem with my main (new) PC so went looking for possible things to try. One I found was to run the device driver verifier. As I am wary of using new programmes on my main PC, I did what I usually do, and ran verifier as instructed in Help and Support, BUT, on my old backup PC. Disaster!!! Some way through the process the PC suddenly started running extremely slowly - less than 10% of its correct speed. Once nothing seemed to be happening, I restarted and got the same problem. I have an odd fault that I can't understand. I have XP Pro sp3/IE7 When I start my computer after switching on the power, usually, but not always, it gets as far as the XP "3 blue dots travelling from left to right" loading bar. and then freezes. Sometimes without any blue dots appearing, but also with the blue dots stuck halfway across. Now for the strange thing - if I press the power reset button on the PC itself, it starts again, but completes the XP boot and I can use the PC for the rest of the day. Where do I start looking? My desktop machine is about 4 years old, has Win XP Home Edition that came pre-installed, P4 HT with 1.5 GB of ram, ever since I updated to SP3 a couple of month ago, I've had nothing but problems. I decided to un-install it, and did a clean un-install using add remove programs from the control panel to completely remove SP3, and I did reboot the system. I have a User who is using the clipboard function (Copy/Paste) where she needs to continually use the same information over and over. She copies the information once and the clipboard should retain that information until she copies something else. Well, for some reason, the clipboard is forgetting the data after a few minutes (it is not a consistent time) without copying anything else. I can find no reason for this to happen. Any Ideas?

After several years of running XP on my computer, today it started telling me that significant hardware changes require me to reactivate Windows. I haven't changed any hardware in my computer. This is a genuine retail version of XP Home Upgrade that I bought when XP was released. XP Genuine Validation reports: "Windows must be activated in order to determine if the Windows product key installed on this computer is genuine." My software has always been activated and valid before, so how can I fix this? I've made no changes.
