Hi hope someone can help me with this. We rebooted the sbs2003 sp1 but when it restarted the routing and remote access stopped working. I have tried kb 840686 but that does not help. The event view error is: The currently configured authentication provider failed to load and initialize successfully. A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. I also have other event view errors: The MAD Monitoring thread was unable to connect to WMI, error '0x8004100a'. And: Windows cannot perform filter check for Group Policy object CN={C3EA2FEE-C0F0-4D95-8B65-668D6A64B499},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=TrycareLtd,DC=local. Group Policy processing aborted. …

RE: WinXP SP3 INstallation Hello, I have recently received the SP3 upgrade. It does seem to have taken a long time for it to come through autmatic updates? Its sat at the bottom of my computer telling me to install it. I don't know how to get rid of it, so. I must try it... Having only very limited eperience, and only finding this newsgroup 2 days ago, I want to try and do the update myself. I've had a brief look at some of the advice posted here during September. I am very worried about the following: 1/ How to do a 'back-up' 2/ Safely installing without problems. Any advice must be in non-techie language please. Thanks for any help Allen

Intermittent SSL connection problems with IIS6 on Windows 2003 R2 SP2
by Guest Andrew Dancy- 2 replies

I'm tearing my hair out over a really annoying problem with a website hosted with IIS6 and would appreciate any help people can give. We've just had to migrate a website from an old Windows 2000 machine to a new Windows 2003 machine, and at the same time move it into a new hosting facility. Now we're experiencing problems with some users unable to use SSL to connect via https to our website. I'm not completely sure whether it's a problem with IIS, Windows, the firewall (a Cisco PIX) or the hosting facility, but I thought I'd start with the former and try to eliminate those as potential causes first. The website is at http://www.lovetts.co.uk and also at https…

Hello all, I am copying data from an old volume to a new volume with Robocopy. My first question is do I really need to copy the System Volume Information directory and the Recycler directory? I would think not. If not what is the proper syntax using the /XD switch to skip these two directories?

Folder Browsing Slow
by Guest netadmin07- 0 replies

We have a brand new server Dell PowerEdge 1950, running Windows Server 2003 ENT, SP2. It has two 1TB drives, not running any Raid. Basically, some of the folders on the drives are very large, and if you open them it takes a very long time, longer than normal. The screen goes to white, and you wait, then eventually the flashlight icon starts going back and forth. Finally the data will appear. If we close that folder, after all the data is visible, and go back into that folder right away, this does not happen anymore, it opens up right away. We did notice that the Indexing service was disabled by default, so we enabled that service, but still havin…

I am trying to add a user profile on my computer. Everything goes fine until I try to activate an email account. I put in the user name, in and out address, etc., but the program locks up before the email activates. I have deleted the user and tried adding another a number of times, with the same result. Any suggestions.

WinXp computer kicked off network.
by Guest Lvdarkwolf- 5 replies

We have dozens of computers acting strangly. They are all connected to the domain as setup as any other computer is. For some reason though they will simply go into "network death" there network cards seems to simply turn off, looking at the network switch they will be unseen there as well. As soon as we reboot or moved the network cable to another port they will come live again. The only fix we have found is to join the computer to a workgroup and then readd it to the domain. I know i've had this happen previously with embedded windows systems but never full towers before. Does anyone know what would suddenly cause this sickness?

How to automatically start performance logging?
by Guest Alfred Falk- 2 replies
I am monitoring certain performance counters on a number of servers. I want it to start and stop at particular times on a regular schedule. In Server 2008, there is a fully functional scheduler built in to Performance Logs properties, so no problem there. In Server 2003 and Server 2000 the scheduler is essentially one-time-only or manual start. In Server 2003 (and XP) there is a command-line tool "logman.exe" that will effect manual control, so the problem is solved there by setting up a scheduled task. But I'm stuck with one Server 2000 system. I tried copying logman.exe from 2003 to the 2000, but that doesn't work. Anybody have any suggestions? …

Does anybody know what these are or how to get rid of them? Trojan-downloader.win32.agent.bq Trojan.clicker.win32.Tiny.h I keep getting what appears to be Windows Security Boxes telling me my firewall has detected suspicious activity. I should have know something was up because I don't even have my Windows firewall activated. I tried "googling" a manual removal but I don't know where in the regedit to fine the keys I'm suppose to remove. If any of you MVP's or very knowledgable computer people can help me out.....I'd truly much appreciate it because it's a nuisance. Thanx.......Patty

Add regkey to TS users HKCU
by Guest Al Williams- 15 replies

Windows Server 2003 SP2 TS. I need to add a simple registry key to all my TS users HKCU hive. I googled and found an old post from Vera and tried adding "regedit newreg.reg" command to my login scripts but the users get a permission error - "Cannot import newreg.reg: Error accessing the registry." . It seems they aren't allowed to add new keys to their HKCU hive (it doesn't work manually either unless they are admins). Short of giving them all admin permissions until it's done is there another way? I know this must be simple but I can't find a solution that works. I'd rather not get into GPO's or VBscript if I can help it... Thanks -- Alla…

How can I script (in VBScript, C#.NET, or PowerShell) the following. I'm looking for the total sessions created (since the last reboot). Thus far, I have only been able to get this number by running QWINSTA /COUNTER and checking the "Total Sessions Created" value. NOTE: this number is not equal to the total number of active and inactive sessions

I have a problem with SP3 involving the Link-Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder. With SP2 this was installed by downloading a hot fix KB922120. When I applied SP3 everything worked normally. But on one system I reinstalled XP SP2 and applied SP3 without KB922120 (since it is suppose to be contained in SP3) and I can not find the LLTD. Does anyone konw how to enable this? This enables the XP machine to appear on the network map of a Vista system. Thanks. -- Paul

Re: Restore default policies System Restore to when it was correct? With the caveat that it will roll back everything to that point in time, obviously. Or, you could just temporarily roll back, and note the settings, and then undo it and apply those settings afterwards. > Tyler Durden wrote: >> What is the fastest method to restore default gpedit.msc and secpol.msc >> settings? >> >> Thanks.

Setting up first TS Server - Have I Done it right?
by Guest Chavvy- 7 replies

Guys, I have set up my first 2003 Terminal Server for a friend using TS user cals. This is a single server/domain and I had a few issues with remote sessions being able to connect. This turned out to be default security settings for the DC which I have now resolved. When I purchased the CALS I was told that these had to be installed against named AD users. After setting up the licence service and installing the cals throught internet/Microsoft, I can see no way of doing this. The licence server shows the 5 cals installed though and the installation was pretty smooth. What is worrying me is that the licences in use count does not go down as connections …

Internet Connection Sharing

I have some time on my hands in addition to an older system and some other things. I want to build a router that will also act as a server/firewall among other things. I am thinking of building an XP system and configuring ICS or Internet Connection Sharing. This will require two LAN adaptors, one of which will be connected directly to my cable modem (WAN) and the other will have a hub connected to it for my LAN. On this machine, I want to: 1. connect a printer to share to my LAN, and 2. connect some external USB disk drives for file sharing on the LAN. 3. install anti-virus software and not have to run it on my other systems. 4. configure this appli…
