I am planning on starting a new PC build and will be re-installing XP Home from scratch - it was starting to get a bit clogged and slow. I am fairly sure how to backup all the things I need, but I was not sure what to do about my kid's MSN accounts. What do I need to backup so that I can restore everthing once I have installed the latest MSN Messenger on the new machine. Thanks. Martin

Hello, Recently, I notice that some sites seem to be blocked without my intending to do it. I use yahoo mail. There are some advertisements on the page. Since recently, sometimes some of the advertisements cannot be shown, and its place is taken by the "Cannot show the webpage" error page. Then there is the website hk.match.com. I noticed that I cannnot reach it. However, if I try using a webproxy such as http://go.pinkyorange.net/nph-proxy.pl, hk.match.com can be reached. So the website is not down. It is instead without my knowing, somewhere in the setting some of the websites, which includes hk.match.com, are blocked. How can I go about …

I got a message at login that the was now available so I downloaded, forgetting that I already had the automatic update scheduler. Now when I boot up, I get 2 message boxes. The first one reads: The procedure entry point apsSearchInterface could not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll. The second one reads the same, substituting apsGetReady for apsSearchInterface. I don't know what this means, nor how to fix it. I would greatly appreciate any help offered. Thank you.

wbadmin

Hi everybody, I am trying to set up a scheduled backup. I will use wbadmin and not the graphical interface, because the interface does not allow to backup to remote servers. I have created a command like this: wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:\\SLH\BackupWin\YODA\Montag\ -include:c:,d: -noverify -user:Administrator -password:mypw -vssFull -quiet Now, it would be nice to replace the part '\Montag\' with every day of the week. Is there a function to do such replacement like %DAYOFWEEK% or something similar? Where can I find documentation about such functions? Thanks for your time Ole

OK, I have a sched. task in Windows Server 2008 64 Bit RTM Enterprise, that fires (sorry, I mean sexy new term "Triggers") on second Thursday of every month, then repeats every hour. However, although I ask it to stop after 6 hours,it keeps going & going up to 8 hours now and counting!!!!!! I am seeing posts on this in Vista groups also (no surprises there - same kernel). So, can MS admit this is a bug and advise when this will be dealt with please? Oh the pain, the pain. (Dr. Smith) Thanks.

One beep - then frozen
by Guest Tony Meloche- 4 replies

I take care of tech issues with my wife's computer as well as my own, and generally do her updates, defrag, etc. on Fridays. Her computer is a Dell, nine months old, has always operated flawlessly, and is fully updated. I booted her machine this morning, left the room and returned five minutes later to find the hourglass still up (desktop looked normal). I moved the mouse arrow over to a small text file on the desktop and experimentally double-clicked on it - it didn't open, and then I got one short "beep". Absolutely nothing would budge after that - frozen solid. I shut it down, waited two minutes and rebooted - everything right as rain. Interes…
