Blue screen error on dialup
by Guest Carrie- 3 replies
This has happened several times, when it does, I've run spyware scans and finally did a system restore for a few days back. That seems to fix it for the time being. At the time it happens, I can't get onlnine. When it starts to dial, it makes a funny noise, like stuttering (stuck) and the blue screen comes up. This has also happened when I've been going over my saved photo DVDs (in he DVD drive) Looking for pictures and taking some off onto the computer. Today it did it while I was writing in Word 2007, and decided to put it online, while Word was still open. But, after it happens, it then won't let it dialup and go online without coming up again. Windows will co…

Hi all, At the office we are getting a little confused with CAL's. Basically we have bought a new site and are creating a trust between our domain and theirs. Will our CAL's allow us to access not only our servers here, but the servers we are creating a trust with. Will they also be classed as our servers? (We own both servers) Regards

Hello, I have an USB REV35 IOMEGA connected to a 2003 SP1 Standard server. I use it for Backup purpose. Every day of the week are the disks swapped. It was working without problems about 2 years. Now I have the situation where each time the eject button is pressed, the server startet immediately a reboot with error codes: 0x0000000a (0x00000000, 0x0000001b, 0x00000001, 0x8082947b) And this, since I have updated to the newest driver and firmware (before reboot was sporadic). I don't know where I could begin to look for... Perhaps has someone an idea? More generally, I am wondering now whether this backup method is the right one. Removing a disk …

by Guest 2929- 5 replies

I was having some difficulties booting up Windows so I was looking thru the options on the screen. I accidentally pressed to REPAIR Windows, and it started the process. I aborted about 30 seconds later. I never did fix the Win XP issue, instead I hooked up that hard drive to another computer so I can get to my files, but I can only open SOME of my files. The other files are not accessible. Does anyone know if that partial Repair damaged them ?? Does anyone know how to make these files accessible again ?? They are photo and video files. Thank you so very …

Using scannow questions
by Guest Carrie- 2 replies

In my looking around online today, I came across instructions for using sfc/scannow to check Windows files. I thought I'd try it, so printed out the directions. First, it wouldn't open using RUN and putting in sfc/scannow (said it couldn't find the path to it) I'd dabbled in dos a bit with WIN 98 but didn't think XP was the same, and had never tried it. I put comd.prompt in RUN and to my amazement a black dos box came up I put sfc/scannow in, it started then a box came up saying to put in the WIN XP installation disc. I never got one of those with my Dell XPS 400. It said the files are built in and can be restored that way without a disk. In the directions a…

My company is cutting cost. We want to setup a dial-up server. We have a maximum of 5 concurrent users. If I install 5 internal modems on Windows 2003 server, will 5 users be able to dial in at the same time? Do I need 5 different phone numbers or one phone number? Do I configure RAS on Windows 2003 server? Do you have any suggestions? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Zune software -Cannot create PLAYLIST, Invalid Playlist name.
by Guest FirstTranshuman- 1 reply

The Zune software will not let me create or rename any playlist. Regardless of what the name is, "bob" for example, the software tells me it's an invalid playlist name and to try something else. I uninstalled and then reinstalled the software but the outcome was the same. I just installed the Zune 3.0 update but a saw on a blog that someone else experienced the same problem last Christmas so I doubt the update is the specific issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HOME FOLDER ON 2003 ENTERPRISE ED .64 BIT SERVER
by Guest Al- 9 replies

ok now this seems pretty simple but it doesn't work!! In ADU&C, I can select an AD user, properties, profile and enter a home folder. Z: \\SERVERNAME\HOME$\%USERNAME% Now on the shared server I created a share directory named HOME, then shared named home$, in there I created the users home folder. user boots up his/her XP Pro which is on the domain and can see his/her home folder but can't freaken create or drop any folders/documents in there. User gets: access denied, you need proper permissions on the folder. User has full control on their folder! Tried everything with permissions and google. Still can't get it to work.

Hi all, I am running a TS2003 w/SP2. I have many remote users who log in from home that have multiple printers connected to their home machines. I would like to only have their default printer map to the session. Is this possible? I have noticed that multiples printers per user per session get mapped and then do not get deleted on exit. This is slowing down the logoff process considerably. Thanks TR

I would like to ask two questions. I had to do a reinstall of windows xp. About two years some one helped me get rid of the windows splash screen. It just showed drivers and different files loading very fast in black and white. I thought I did something to the registry but I cant remember. I tried MSCONFIG bootini sos this works but not correctly, Question 2 I have changed my windows xp to the classic windows style and use the classic start window. I get a log on screen when windows is starting up. I am the only one using the computer and only the administrator account is turned on. I tried tweak windows and checked the auto logon but it only works one…

I have a problem with Windows XP x64 where if I access the ShellNew menu from a 32-bit application, it shows only Shortcut and Folder. If I try to access it again, it then displays the full menu. If I then attempt to access the same menu from a 64-bit application, the same issue occurs. Does this occur for everyone using XP x64? Is there any way to fix it? Thanks.
