by Guest Ken- 4 replies

I will be installing a new copy of Windows XP 64-bit in a few days. The package says it has SP2. I thought I would then install SP3,then use Windows Update. Am I correct that the updates that are put out periodically are the same for 64-bit as for the 32-bit versions? Or are there different updates for the 64-bit version? Thanks Ken K

w2k3/IIS6 query on FTP logins?
by Guest JVRudnick- 2 replies

Learning here how to use windows Explorer to ftp data to our server, instead of using our FTP software. Seems pretty easy to do, but I've a question. w2k3 is supposed to allow you to both isolate or not, the user from all the folders in the vhosts folder, as I understand it. In setting up a simple FTP, I just used the Wizard and it ran fine...but I did note that when I tried to use same, I was asked for the id/pw and I had them for one of the sites on the server....but that made me wonder. When I'm using RDC on the server and settting up a new FTP service there, for a client whom I want to be isolated, I did NOT see anyway to create id/pw for them. …

by Guest Jay- 3 replies

Greetings! I am trying to copy some fonts from one XP machine to another. These are TrueType fonts. Is it possible to just copy/paste them from the Fonts folder of one machine into the same folder on the other? I've done it successfully that way on one machine, but on another I get the message like Windows is using the font and it cannot be replaced. If I'm not running any apps, and the font hasn't been installed yet, then how can Windows be using it? Thanx,

System restore problem
by Guest Theslaz- 7 replies

Trying to remove my old restore points. Reason being; I had a virus; cleaned that up; however; my virus program still shows a virus in my various system restore files. I have tried; several times; turning of system restore and then rebooting. However; when I go back into the settings; it shows that system restore is still turned on and monitoring. I would have thought that it would stay turned of. I did another virus scan and it appears that the only system restore files showing a virus are on the "C" drive. My other 4 drives don't show anything; whereas before turning of system restore they would show a virus. So it appears that some files where rem…

Sound Balance Not Working Correctly
by Guest FARAZ QURESHI- 2 replies

I was using the Adobe Audition in editing and finishing a single sound record file when the electricity broke-down. However, upon resuming I am quite surprised that all my music collection isn't working properly: 1. Upon opening the Master Volume and increasing the sound the music plays but without voice (i.e. only the beat and the music); 2. However, when I drag the Balance Button of the Master Volume either to left or right, the complete music plays with vocal components of song, but when I bring the Balance Button back in the mid, once again the voice is lost and only the music is playing; 3. Furthermore, while being on either left or right, both t…

I read that changing a motherboard is now considered as a being a new computer by Microsoft and requires a new licence. This doesn't seem very fair if the motherboard has become faulty and needs replacing. Will he have to get a new licence if I change his motherboard? It will be a second hand one and not new.

They are in seperate locations and both have multiple network cards as shown below Server 1 NIC 1 - Public IP (89.xxx.xxx.xxx) NIC 2 - Internal IP (192.168.0.1) Server 2 NIC 1 - Public IP (219.xxx.xxx.xxx) NIC 2 - Internal IP (192.1681.1) I want to setup the VPN using a preshared key not a secure certificate between the two internal NICs. I have tried running through the routing and remote access wizard but cannot find a way to get it to work. fatal error in WinXP repair
by Guest gtforce- 1 reply

After a PC crash, I restored a backup from external hard drive. Upon restarting Windows, I immediately got errors, so I tried repairing WinXP. It gets through to the restart, and I get the "cannot find 'asms'" error (as I've seen on several threads here). I changed the path to C:\i386\ and it found it ok. But now it gets stuck on "The GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\NT5INF.CAT catalog file could not be found..." I tried copying this file from another laptop onto a CD, but it does not recognize it. I've read a few suggestions about slipstreaming SP2, but the recovery CD I've repaired from is WinXP Pro including SP2 - Shouldn't everything already be on there? …

If this is the wrong forum, please let me know what the correct one is. We have a new server that we have installed Windows2008 with IIS7 and we have everything working fine except the SMTP server will not send mail. We need this because 2 of our ASP.NET apps email to people who request it. We're making no progress - any suggestions on what to check or how to track down the problem? One note, our company mail server (Exchange) is on a totally different server. thanks - dave david@at-at-at@windward.dot.dot.net Windward Reports -- http://www.WindwardReports.com me -- http://dave.thielen.com Cubicle Wars - http://www.windwardreports.com/film.htm
