Hello. I have installed a new fresh version of windows XP and I found I cannot install my own set of OpenType fonts into the system (from katalog). Does anyone encounter such problem like mine? I have tried everything. Corel's Font Navigator (says it cannot load fonts) then as I though it faulty program, i tried Font Expert but it says exactly the same. After cheking Extensis Suitcase Font Manager, I thought I have faulty set of fonts but my friend gave me a well working OpenType font which works perfectly and it happens exactly the same with those fonst. Where is the problem that I can't install any OpenType fonts into the system? TrueType fonts…

Hi My problem is that when I highlight my photo and push the open button at the bottom of the page. The picture image is not transferring to my project to modify and print. I noticed this was not happening after I had ran a program to clean my computer of registry errors and unwanted files. I don't know if this is the problem. So I uninstalled MSPI2002 and reinstalled it, but with the same result. Any help would be appreciated since this critical to my business thanks, Global

XP Pro won't boot after Windows Update
by Guest 3 Cats- 6 replies

Life was good until 2 days ago. Then Windows Update downloaded 5 new updates. Now Win XP Pro 32 won't boot. "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupted:" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. I used my XP Installation Disk to load Recovery Console and typed "r" to initiate repair. The system then just sits at the C:WINNT> prompt. How do I continue with the repair to get the system to boot? Do you think the Windows Update is unrelated? My C drive is a RAID array with 2 SATA disks in RAID 0. Do Raid drivers need to be loaded before Recovery Console can do it's job? Thank you very much for your help.

I noticed that the Opera general newsgroup web site is not currently available. Is Google sites down again. It certainly is turning into a cloudy day from the blue skies and the current outlook is not that great. Please stay tuned for future updates. sharing files?
by Guest Jo-Anne- 4 replies
Now that I have my new notebook computer configured much like my old desktop one (WinXP SP3, IE7, OE6), I'd like to be able to have all my datafiles on both computers. The desktop computer is connected to a wireless router, and the notebook has a wireless card that makes use of that router. I've managed to enable printer sharing, but I don't know if I also have file sharing--or even quite what that means. I'd be grateful if someone could point me to some good places to read about my options. Thanks much! Jo-Anne

How bypass "Font is already installed" message?
by Guest Cirene- 4 replies
I have over 1000 fonts that I've backed up. (I had to reformat my drive.) Now I try to copy/paste the fonts into the c:\windows\fonts directory. For most of them I get the message: The Xxxx font is already installed. To install a new version, first remove the old version. Is there a way to paste the fonts and bypass this message? Or is there a better way to restore all my fonts? Thanks!

Anyone good at editing Right Click Pop-Up Menus? I just added notepad and wordpad to the popup menu on Windows Explorer. It was easy enough. Now when I try to add a "select all" button, I am getting nowhere. If I can send a Ctrl-A then I could make it happen. Nothing I tried works. Not an easy subject on the web. Many hits and no content. Anyone with experience have any ideas?

Start up for windows
by Guest jp4winns- 1 reply

Upon start up of my computer the message that is displayed is "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu". I read that this has been a problem for users before. The help from microsoft tells you to actually select that option. However help also states that the keyboard and mouse usually will not work, which is my situation. So, how do I select that option if the keyboard and mouse are not working. Need suggestions desperately.

Reboot.....reboot.....reboot

My machine always boot ans shows me the menu asking me if I want to boot normal or in safe mode. Today I installed drivers for a modem and my thumb drive. Does not recognize my thumb drive after the install of the drivers. Also installed the AOL software and after that install it will never successfully boot. Displays the windows logo and then repeats the boot process. I tried to boot in safe mode and go to my CD rom in the hopes that I could either do some sort of repair or maybe re-install win98. My CD drive does not show. I boot to command mode and again, no cd rom drive. I have a dos boot disk with CD Rom drivers. When I boot to this, I …

WebClient stuck in STOPPING status
by Guest ianw- 1 reply

I'm trying to use ElephantDrive's TrunkDrive, a way of mounting their backup server as a drive on my PC using, I believe, windav. It is not however working and its been suggested that the reason is that my WebClient service is stuck in STOPPING status. I tried setting it to be started manually and, after reboot was able to start it and immediately received the message that it had started and stopped, though the status remains "STOPPING". Presumably I need to get this to stay started in order to use webdav services. Can anyone suggest what might be wrong? XP Pro+SP3. ian ....

Paging File
by Guest Sid Elbow- 9 replies
I suspect this is a dumb question but .... I was doing some defragmenting yesterday and elected to have the page-file defragged as part of the process (PerfectDisk 8). It needed to do it at boot time so I re-booted and dutifully sat for 10 - 15 min while the page file was defragged. At this point I began to wonder why this was necessary. I thought the page file was just to offload the system memory when it gets full. Is there any data in the page file that needs to survive a reboot? Could a defrag not consist of simply clearing or deleting/recreating it? (Come to that, couldn't windows itself do that as part of the boot process)?

I'm about to install Acronis True Image 11 on my new laptop computer running Windows XP SP2. Before I do that, is there any way to back up my current settings? I've tweaked a number of things and don't want to lose what I've done if something goes wrong in the installation. (I don't have a floppy drive.) I also plan to create a Restore Point before installing the program, so I suppose that would protect everything. Thank you! Jo-Anne

Internet Explorer Memory Problem!
by Guest PrinceOfAldan- 1 reply

Hi, Since a few days ago, I have this problem: Whenever IE is open, the memory used by it is continuously growing, right now the memory used by IE is at 837MB and increasing. This is NOT adware/malware related! No malware of viruses on the system. This happens with ANY IE content, not a particular web site. When I minimize IE, the memory gets cleared, 837MB just changed to 16MB when I minimized it! The behavior is the same as many people have described here: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2082917&SiteID=17 But there is no solution and I am posting here to see if I can get any attention! It basically crashes my system when it ru…

What backup program is best?

I have been using NTI (New Technology Inc.) File Backup for same time. Recently they "upgraded" to version 5, and made the user interface much less intuitive. Also, it seems to lose some information I entered, such as Job Name, Overwrite option, and Verify option. Is there a preferred file backup program that you experts recommend? (XP SP3.) Thank you.
