restart command, shuts down and stays down
by Guest MF- 7 replies

I've got an HP DL360 G4p with Win 2k SP4 on it. When I issue the restart command on it, it shuts down but won't start up again - which is a bit of a pain if I ever have to restart it remotely. I'm scratching my head. I've reapplied SP4 but (surprise surprise) it made no difference. HP say it's an MS issue. Anyone any ideas? Thanks... Mike

Scheduled Task .bat file 0x1 Error
by Guest Rick Williams- 0 replies
I was having trouble getting a scheduled task to run on Windows Server 2008 that was calling a .bat file to run. Specifically, I was getting a 0x1 error whenever the scheduled task ran. The solution was to type in the path to the ..bat file in the Start In(optional): in the edit action window. You get there by pressing the Edit button under the Actions tab. Here is an example path you'd type in if your .bat file is located under the temp folder at the root of drive c: c:\temp\bat I wanted to report this solution because it took me several days to discover this solution and I wanted to save someone else the trouble.

by Guest computerchallengedcc- 7 replies

When shutting down, pc starts to shut down normally, goes to black screen, and then starts over with ssaving settings, shutting down, etc. and is taking much longer than normal to shut down even at this point. I only see two errors in the Events Log, and the time frame is not corresponding to the time that I shut down my pc. Red warning in Event Log says: "Service Control Manager".... The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: SASKUTIL For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. The above link does not work! The yellow warning has to do with Windows Defender: Windows De…

Delayed net connectivity
by Guest JGundrey- 3 replies

After boot-up, and then launch IE, the browser just sits there empty for several minutes sometimes. Then, the home page pops up finally and web browsing continues normally after that. During the time the browser is blank, there is no "Local Area Network" icon (with the little blinking green lights) in the system tray. After the web starts working, the little network icon (with the two little monitors) appears in the tray. IE 7, 32 bit. WinXP64 SP2. It used to work no problem. Nothing in my hardware has changed. What gives?

Hi!! As Admin I can check/uncheck the Protected mode option from within IE no problem. As a Domain User, the option is greyed out. not Group Policy. Running an RSOP on the local machine shows Protected mode for all zones as Disabled, yet the box is still checked and greyed out rendering our new TS useless for the moment. Any ideas? Paul.

Another SP3 install error
by Guest operaflute- 6 replies

Auto-update downloaded SP3. Before I agreed to install, I (wisely) backed up. After the install, I get the error msg: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <windowsroot>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe" After restoring said file from my backup, I still can't boot. I just get a black screen. Admittedly, I forgot to try safe mode before just restoring my entire drive from the backup. (Why not? That's why I did the back up in the first place.) MS says the file is not corrupt (which would explain why restoring it didn't solve the problem) They also say that the file is unchanged in SP3 (which tells me that redownloa…

Windows freezing in an odd manner
by Guest Nick B- 6 replies

We have an XP SP3 computer that freezes after a while of sitting there. For instance, in the morning, often we will sit at the computer and we are able to move the mouse around and single click on different icons in the Dekstop. But if we double-click on something (like and Internet Explorer shortcut, or even a folder), the Desktop seems to freeze -- we can still move the mouse around, but nothing else can be higlighted and we can no longer create "boxes" by clicking and dragging. Interestingly we can often then hover the mouse over the arrow that expands the system tray and it will say "Show hidden icons", but if we click on that, that task bar will fe…

Now that I found the Clipboard viewer, I was trying to capture the desktop with the "Print Screen"button, but it does not work. When I open the viewer, all I see is blackness. When I paste it to Paint, same thing, blackness. Is this a problem with the keyboard, or the applet? How do I find out? Do I need to update something? Any suggestions would be great. Thank you. Sirius.

Hi there I have a 2008 server running mainly for remote logins via terminal services. I have set up this server in workgroup mode with no AD. I have some shares that I want a certain group to have auto mounted when they login via TS. is this possible? Also, I want to hide a hard drive, say Z:, from certain users/groups. I have already denied them access to that drive, but now i want it to be not visible in my computer when they log in. is that possible as well? Thanks a lot. Product keys & CD's
by Guest Sirius- 5 replies

Hello, I have a weird question, hope you don't mind. I have some windows xp cd's without product keys, genuine of course, and then I have some product keys without the win xp software cd's from computers that have dead harddrives and did not have a cd come with them because the recovery was on the harddrive itself on a hidden partition, can't get the software due to warranty expiration. home with home, oem with oem, pro with pro, etc. Sooo, I would like to know if it's possible to put the disks and keys together, should I even try or is it a waste of time. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My works calender "froze" back in April, and I can't get rid of the error message from Microsoft that shows up every time I turn on the computer, saying that there is a problem and error report has been sent. How can I get rid of this annoying problem? Works was pre installed on my computer when I bought it, and I don't have a disk that I can use to re-install it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
