Hi all, Im having a funny few minutes. In order for my logon batch amnd small vbs program to run at logon and for the GPO to enforce desktop wallpaper images, they must be in an accessible shared folder. My worry is; what is to stop a savvy user from finding those shares and altering the wallpaper or logon scripts/vbs..? Is it possible to secure these files from general domain users access but still leave them available during logon..? Thanks all, I couldnt find any answers online so far. Rolf

Remote Perfmon Anomaly

Hello All, We are running Windows 2003 SP1 32 and 64bit. We are running into an issue when a specific server ( 64 bit, active node of a sql cluster ) is accessed remotely through perfmon to check any Logical Disk properties, certain disks show as "HarddiskVolume6". When checking these properties locally through perform, they show correctly. I have checked another cluster active node setup identically and it works properly. I have checked perfmon from either 32 or 64 bit machines with the same result. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks in advance!!!

Planning new WXP Pro 64-bit install: any tips?
by Guest Ken- 6 replies

I am going to build a workstation for my daughter, who is a design student and is going to run only design programs such as 3D Maxx, which takes advantage of the 64-bit architecture. I am fairly familiar with XP Pro 32-bit,as we have 5 installs in the family, but I am not familiar with the 64-bit program. Are there any tricks I should be aware of for an install? Particular quirks of the 64-bit version? Is there a website that I should know about if problems arise or is this newsgroup likely to provide all that I would need? Just trying to be prepared... Thanks Ken K

date and time resets to December 31, 2000 upon boot
by Guest Headache- 15 replies

Ever since Sunday September 6th, 2008, my computer has had a problem with the date and time displayed in the task bar. Whenever I turn on the computer, the date would reset to December 31, 2000, and the time would reset to a time that\s approximately 3 hours later than the actual time. After I readjusted the date and time to the correct ones, and I restart again, the time would be fine. However, if I turn on the computer the next day, the time would revert to the December 31, 2000 date and the corresponding wrong time. When this is the case, as I turn on my computer, the first screen would be accompanied by a beep sound and this weird "America *something*…

NLB Mgr question
by Guest Neil Burk- 3 replies
I am using NLB on 5 hosts runing 2003 Terminal Server. The only way I can get a reliable connection to the VIP is to configure them in Unicast mode. According to MS documentation I should be able to use nlb mgr (gui) to manage the cluster, from a host outside of the cluster but it does not work. When I connect to VIP with nlb mgr, 3 of the hosts are "unreachable" according to nlb mgr. These hosts are available via ping, rdp, tracert, etc. I have enabled "Remote Connections" in nlb mgr, I have configured DCOM to allow the udp connection - still does not work. Any ideas.

Windows - Jobs, Interview Questions, Certification

Hi, In the very fast moving IT Industry, there is a need for the people to keep a note of what is happening in the field, what are the latest Jobs available and in which technologies they are available and what companies and also in which cities. And also when applying for Jobs, it is obvious for people to look for Interview Questions in their Technologies and if they are able to find it all at one place, then they can concentrate on studying or doing R&D further on those questions and answers available. And for a better pay pack people are always in a mood of doing certification and at that time they are on a lookout for certification material an…

2008 Easy Print problem
by Guest Steve- 2 replies

We have deployed Navision (MS Application) via TS 2008 . All client printers are using the Easy Print driver. Quite often, when users try to print from this published remote application to the redirected printer, they send the job to the printer, but the printer does not produce any output. If I watch their session, it doesn't appear that the job ever reaches the que of the client created printer. To resolve, I have been having them close their application and reopen, and that has mostly worked, but I am looking for resolution. I do not see any errors in the Event viewer related to this. Thank you, steve

Hi All, I'm not sure where I should post this, so please let me know where I can/should redirect if necessary. Here is my problem: We have a incomming faxes routed to e-mail via a fax server. Somehow, phone lines got crossed and incomming faxing went down. When the phone company rectified the problem, incomming faxes are now only coming in via hard copy on the fax machine. I've been staring at the configuration settings of the fax server but having never done this before, not really sure what I should be checking for. Would appreciate anyone help in pointing me to the right direction getting this resolved. Thanks! Keith

AVG 8

AVG 8 seemed to have gone a bit Italian on me. The annoying information bar at the bottom (which you can only hide after it opens with the interface) was advertising some game called Shark Shooter and it was in Italian! It updated itself today in the normal way. Has AVG itself become a victim of some spammer/hacker? Chose to update again and was told no updates were available. Closed it and re-opened and this time there is the normal option to upgrade to Internet security.

Ok, the system was working fine and then the next morning I booted it up and a screen came up and said that windows could not start due to windows\system32\config\system was corrupted. I tried recovery console and that did not show my windows installation. It did not even prompt me for a password. I tried running chkdsk and that didn't work. If I try md test it fails with access denied. Then I tried rebooting and going into windows install, pressed f8 and then I wanted to try to repair the installation. However that option was not given to me and it showed that I had an unpartitioned drive. I could only create a partition. I don't want to lose my stuff on…
