Currently we use a Windows 2003 Storage Server as our file server and this has all our asp and files stored which is accessed from about 10 IIS6 machines using UNC share. We are now upgrading to Windows 2008 IIS7 and wondered if it would be faster if the file server was now moved to Windows 2008 as well to take adventage of SMB 2.0 Is Windows 2008 server faster natively than the Windows 2003 Storage Server in this type of environment for serving files? Thanks.

by Guest Bob Speck- 4 replies

During the boot procedure I get a message that says, "The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are correct. Then type your password again." This message appears in front of the log on to windows with my user name and password filled in. I click on OK and then get a screen showing my user name and a picture. I am told to click on my user name and then get a message saying my personal settings are being loaded. How can I avoid getting the message that says the system could not log me on. I do not want any interruptions in the boot procedure. Bob Speck

2 client machines have suddenly developed this message at logon: "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found." These PCs are running XP Professional SP3, on an SBS2003 domain, and are shown as client computers on the domain controller. These PCs have successfully been on the domain for 11 months. I have tried alternate passwords (which are know to be good passwords as they are in use on a daily basis but still get the same message. I have tried the usual passwords for the affected PCs on other PCs and they work on the alternate machines. …

Windows XP SP2 / Microsoft Internet Explorer v6 / Norton Internet Security 2008 My friend can use IE for a half hour, either all at once, or cumulatively. After a half hour of use, IE quits allowing Internet access. There is no error message, and closing and reopening the browser doesn't help, nor doing a 'restart'. The only way to temporarily fix the problem is to shut down the PC, and restart - Help appreciated - Imageman

Hi sbs 2003 premium. I have a peculiar problem with one win xp client pc. After booting the pc logs in fine then says things like loading settings and creating network connections etc but as soon as it is about to display the desktop, icons and task bar; it stops and all we are left is with the standard blue windows xp desktop background i.e. no icons or task bar or anything else besides background. Booting in 'Safe Mode with Networking' also gives the same result and so does login in remotely via RWW. I can open the computer management for the pc from sbs server and also browse pc's drive from the server's network places. This leads me to believe th…

by Guest fred- 0 replies

Here's an interesting scenario. I've got this issue on two XP SP3s. We got dual monitor AGP cards in both. Two LCD monitors have been working on both machine just fine until one Microsoft update later and one monitor is not working anymore on each computer. I have swapped monitors and cables with known good ones, and that is not an issue. The Display applet in Windows shows both monitors but when you click on number 2 and put a check in the box to extend your display and click Apply, the screens go blank for a second and come back with only the first display with the box unchecked. These two machines are in different buildings. Uninstalling and reinstallin…

Applying share permissions is slow
by Guest Justin- 1 reply

Hello, We have a Windows 2003 SP2 file server in a 2003 native mode AD that uses Global Security groups for controlling share level access. Once a user is added to the security group, the permissions don't seem to be active right away, and they continue to get access denied errors until they Log off and back on to their workstation. Why is the new group membership not recognized right away and is there any way to have it apply without the user doing a relogin? All of our PC's are XP SP2. Thanks! Justin

Windows XP System Restore
by Guest ggalv- 17 replies

Right now, I am thinking of "maybe" doing a system restore to August 15, which is before I got this: Trojan Horse Dropper.Agent.JOC in AVG Anti-Virus. I have been doing some research and I am not sure if its a "false positve" and restore the file OR if its an actual virus and delelte the file from the vault. If I do a system restore to August 15 (which is pre SP3) do you know approximately how long would it take? THANKS.
