Afternoon all, Does anyone know whether there is an issue with using a Windows standard 2003 server to issue a Remote Assistance request? When I do this using email as the invitation method, the email is sent successfully however whenever I click on the email from the xp-client, I get taken to a window that says. Server 2000 SP4 running AD. I have read many posts about how to log file and folder access, but it doesn't seem to work. I've enabled auditing of object access in a group policy on the domain controller. I've changed the properties of the folder to be audited and added the groups to audit and what's to be audited. Nothing shows up in the security event viewer when files are accessed, changed, added or deleted. It's got to be something I've overlooked. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? -- Jordon

I know I can transfer my copy of XP Home to another computer If I uninstall from the first. No problem. But what about the self distructing sticker? Legally, it needs to be transfered too, right?

I've been logging in to XP Home most of the time as an administrator. How big a security risk is this? If I start using a limited account, is there a way to copy the documents and settings and maybe the Outlook Express mail and address book from the Admin account? Thanks

I started to get a little star today on my task bar saying "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting". My operating system and all MS programs were legally installed when I bought the Sony computer in January, 2006. Does anyone know how to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated. TIA, barney

If a hotfix or Security update is remove in Add/Remove will Windows Update display those again and allow you to install it again ? Fred

I just installed xp pro on two machines on my LAN network I can and been sharing files to the desktop, but now I can share to the desk top on the XP pro machines. Did Microsoft change something in XP pro. Is there a fix or some way I can accass the desktop of my XP Pro machines from the XP home. Thanks

My current machine is a clone of my colleague who used the 'ghost' tools to replicate his harddisk when I first came to my current company. I know it is not a good idea but that the way he did. I can see the reasons was he did not want me to spend time on the installation of all the softwares. Here's my actual question: I tried to create an installer using InstallShield and test it. However, on the page of the 'Customer Information' the 'User Name' box was filled with my colleague's name. It told me his footprint is left/spread in my machine. It also seems his name is set as default. How do I do to get rid of such thing?

i have installed + activated Windows Server 2008 Terminal Licesning Server role in Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition.However, I am getting this error after performing activation. "The following error occured on the licensing server.0x534, No mapping between account names and security IDs was done." Hi, I've got a user who works at home with windows vista and he has a brother hl-5240. When he makes connection to our terminal server 2003 via RDP he can't see the printer and we reveive event id 1111 in our event log. There is a driver installed on our terminal server 2003 for windows 2000, xp and 2003. How can we solve this? Do I have to install the driver for windows vista on our terminal server 2003? Thx.

Hello, I need to be able to detect programaticallly from a Windows application the appearance of a new drive letter, e.g. z, y, etc. Ideally I would like to use an event driven approach. One XPPro workstn was infected by the antivirus 2008 trojan, which I have managed to clean. One problem remains: I cannot browse any server (2003) shares via network places or explorer, although all mapped drives are accessible. When I try to browse to the server, - '\\our_srv\' only one share is shown - 'userdata' - and this appears as an empty folder. I know that the trojan affects the local policies, which I've reset, but cannot find anything that would cause the above. Any help, suggestions, guidance would be gratefully received. P.S. Using win2003 server with 2 HDD, trying to setup software mirror. Disk 1 successfully converted to dynamic disk. Disk 0 (split into 2 partitions, no unallocated space) does convert. The option is there but when selected , I get no errors or response back. I think this may be due to not having any free space on the physical disk to convert it but anyone else have any ideas how to make this a dynamic disk?

Hi Scenario we have recently upgraded a older server from 4 way to 8 way CPU. When 4 way the CPUs were configured to run with hyperthreading. When we added more processors we switched this off as Enterprise is not meant to run with greater than 8 CPUs. Even though the server now has 8 physical CPUs utlisation is still vey high. The server is not scheduled to be replaced for another 12 months and we would wish to implement a cost effective increase in server resources. We were interested to know as HT is not physical cores will the OS manage to run if HT is turned on again without an upgrade to Datacentre Thanks Graeme

I have downloaded the latest version of skype, but on carrying out the test call, get the message "skype cannot hear you talking. Is your microphone muted?" Have gone through all the troubleshooting tips to no avail. My audio settings menu only has one option "Realtek AC97 Audio", and not "SoundMAX Digital Audio" which seems to be required for skype. This is strange, as with the previous version of skype everything worked perfectly. Does anyone have a solution?

I bought XP Pro Upgrade and am considering upgrading my Win98 SE PC. I need to know which of my programs will or won't work. I found an area on the MS site but only found one, MS Office 97, and it needs a free upgrade. I can use Works instead. I could not find Front Page 2000, Quicken 99, Photo Shop 6, Greeting Card Deluxe 3 and some others. Is there a list somewhere that's easy to access? I could install them on my XP Pro Notebook to see if they work but that will be involved. I want to use the PC for the important stuff anyway. Would appreciate any suggestions.
