Does anyone know of a way to limit the size of a directory? I don't mean give an individual user a limit on a directory, I mean give a directory a limit regardless of who writes anything to that directory. TIA for any ideas.

Does Windows Server 2008 support dual monitors? It doesn't seem to recognize the hardware. The dual boot Windows XP does (and works properly). I hope to be able to use Hyper-V to create multiple development environments. Thanks, Matt.

MS Word crashes when loading with default network printer
by Guest Scott S.- 4 replies

I have a Win2k3 server (not R2 but current on all SPs) that is a print server. It holds the print queue for a Dell 3110cn printer. All was well until we got 2 new laptops with Vista. Once they were pointed at that printer as their default printer MS Word 2007 started crashing when you launch it. Dell ships a single install package for the printer for XP,Win2k3, and Vista. I installed the latest on the server and could see the new driver version, but the Vista laptops still crash Word unless I set them to use the Microsoft XPS Document printer driver. Then it loads, but of course you can't print. I've browsed the Dell driver package and it appears that the…

Limited User Printer Issue
by Guest AJ- 9 replies

I'm new to this company and have only a decent IT skill set, so I'll explain this the best as I can. I've configured three new laptops, one for myself and two for other users in the company. I have administrator privileges. I installed two network printers on their computer and test printed successfully. Once the laptops were passed to the users, they could also print successfully, that day. When they log off then back on (presumably at day's end then the next morning) they cannot print. I can log on/off from my new laptop and never have printing issues. Seems very likely to be a permission issue somewhere. They *can* access the printers propertie…

Re: XCOPY Insufficient system resources problem.

Re: XCOPY Insufficient system resources problem. I also am having this problem when trying to copy files using the Windows Explorer. Both systems (target and source) are Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. If I try and "push" files at the target, I get this error message: "Cannot copy <filename>: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service." If I try and "pull" the files from the source, I get this error message: "Cannot copy <filename>: Not enough server storage space is available to process this command." I've searched the knowledgebase for both error messages and found solutions to either ancient NT products, some 20…

by Guest Don- 13 replies

Hey gang, I used to run, Cccleaner, in XP, and kind of liked how it cleaned out temp files, etc. I notice the latest release, states that Vista 64 bit is supported, but does mention there are some " non critical" issues remaining. I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit, just curious if anyone is running the program in Vista 64, and how you like it? Thanks for any feedback here, -- Don

I had a non-validated copy of Windows XP on my computer, came with the computer, so I bought an XP upgrade. I installed it by booting through the CD drive and installed it into a different file. When I went to install all the udates, it said that the site was not available. I tried a couple of different ways, and still could not get it to work. Another thing I would like to do is transfer all the documents and settings to the newly installed XP. Any suggestions?? thanks

Creating a System Disk on a system without a floppy drive
by Guest confused two- 2 replies

Windows XP lets me back up my entire system on any drive I want - but insists I install a floppy disk in my A drive - with no option to use a CD or DVD or PMD to create a system disk. How do I get around this archaic means of storage. I haven't had a floppy drive since before my kids were born. My boot sequence doesn't include a floppy drive either. Very strange software.

After installing SP2 on Windows 2003 Terminal Server I came in the next morning and saw on the server "Windows - Low on Registry Space - The system has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored." Users logging onto TS get "Windows was unable to load the profile but has logged on with the default profile system. Default - Insufficiant system resources exist to complete the requested service." It appears that up to six-eight users are able to log on before a user gets the Unable to load profile. Log a couple users off and another is able to log on. If reboot the server and it i…

I am not sure what to do. I am having problems logging into websites on my computer. I will type in my username and password, hit enter and the page will basically come back with the username and password spaces blank and it doesn't log me in. I have reset all the settings back to default and still nothing. Do you have any suggestions? I can't call Dell as my service agreement has expired and I can't afford to contact a professional at Microsoft even though the rates are reasonable. So any advice you can give as to how to fix this problem would be appreciated. I had to use my friends computer just to sign on to ask this question. The only thing is I …

XP/Vista - installing apps on a common drive
by Guest Terry R.- 2 replies
On my personal workstation, I have always used a separate drive partition for data and a separate drive partition for apps, since I have multiple OS's and to keep partition sizes small. I point each app from each OS to the same location, so there is only one footprint of each installed app. If an uninstall is needed (rarely if ever), I just copy the app folder, uninstall it, then rename the copy back to the original so all the other OS's have it available. I was wondering whether anyone dual boots using XP/Vista and has a separate drive they install apps to that is common to both OS's. Thanks, -- Terry R. ***Reply Note*** Anti-spam measures ar…

Time zone changes each time I turn on my PC
by Guest Vin Steele- 5 replies

I am running Windows XP Professional. I automatically install all high-priority updates every week. For the last week or so, everytime I log on, I find that my PC's clock is an hour ahead. When I go to the 'Adjust Date/Time' window, I find that my time zone is set to "GMT-03:00, Brasilia" instead of "GMT-05:00, Eastern Time (US and Canada)', which is where I live. I change the setting, and my time is then accurate until I shut my PC down. When I start up again, I am find my time zone is again set to "GMT-03:00, Brasilia" . I have never been to that time zone, and I have never taken my PC out of my time zone. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Vin St…
