Sidebar Question
by Guest Don- 3 replies

Hey gang, On my Vista Ultimate 64 bit, I have recently started using the sidebar. I have 4 gadgets currently running on the sidebar, and have it set on my secondary monitor. I recently looked in task manager, at my running programs/processes, and noticed it lists two sidebar.exe's running. Is that normal, for there to be two of these running? Just curious. Thanks, -- Don

I use netscape composer for ftp stuff, having a problem. Because it needs to write to a temp folder. I think I found the problem in that the netscape folder has read only clicked. I tried unclicking and applying but it does not stay? I tried safe mode in admin mode with no luck tried doing individual folders with no luck when I click the apply, doesn't so anything I know in previous versions it would sift the files and folders and unlock them? thanks Bruce

Print Management Questions(s).

Hello All: Our forest level is Windows 2003 R2, schema version is 31. # 1). Installation requirement is for computers running Windows 2003 R2, is x64 allowed? #2). Quote: "Print Management can automatically search for and install network printers on the local subnet of your local print server" When I tried to execute the "Automatically Add Network Printers" command, it does not find any printers. I am assuming that's it's searching for printers on the local subnet, but all printers are located on other subnets/VLANs. Although, the Windows 2000 print server is located on the local subnet. How can I expand the search? #3). I configued…

If I reboot, I am fine for a few hours, then no page opens again. Firefox opens pages fine, as well as e-mail (Outlook) works fine. Started with IE7 I upgraded to IE8 Beta, still the same thing. I can open local pages on my PC, but not on the web. If I go to Tools-->Connections-->LAN settings IE locks up and must be closed with Task Manager. I have uninstalled IE7 and re-installed, same issue. Working within a home LAN, all other PCs work fine. All security settings at default levels. What is my 1394 Connection? Windows seems to have added it as some virtual connection, I tried disabling it, but same issues, it is back on now, but why??

WINS
by Guest Rich- 2 replies

not sure where to post this. I have a 2003 server that hosts exchange 2003 and the server is not listing in either net view or my network places both of which I believe use netbios. The server is listing in AD, thru DNS of course. I have tried using the lmhosts file but that was unsuccessful. This has become a critical issue since our BackupExec application uses netbios for it's restore process. The nic WINS settings on the server has two servers listed, netbios is enabled , and all related services are running. Also, search>computers on network from a client machine resolves the name of the server. any help with this would be much appreciated…

Can't seem to delete fonts
by Guest chowchow- 1 reply

I did something weird because I was in a hurry and now I can't get rid of these specific fonts. I tried the basic way which was to select the fonts in the Fonts folder in Control Panel and I selected 'Delete' but it kept giving me this message: "Cannot delete file. Cannot read from the source file or disk." A strange thing is that the file size of each of these fonts is 0. What does it mean?? I tried to reinstall the same fonts hoping it would just replace the previous ones but it's not working. What should I do?

I have a windows 2003 server sp2. Recently I've been getting complaints from users that they are unable to move/delete/rename some of their files that reside on the server. When I go to look to see if the files are open via Computer Management, the file are not open. It is not a security issue as I am unable to do the same as an administrator. I tried downloading and installing the Unlocker program but it doesn't work with these files either. The only way I've been able to get around it is to reboot the server, which is not an option as it is my domain controller. I've tried searching around, but I've not been able to find anything useful. Oh, and yes,…

Bizarre problem with Explorer
by Guest KevinQ- 6 replies

Since the installation of SP3, Windows Explorer has started acting strangely. I'm not sure what triggers it, but it seems to be network-related, possible when the system is accessed rather than when it goes looking. The symptoms are the appearance of multiple dektop entities in the folder pane (an example: http://Quitt.net/ExplorerBug/TooManyDesktops.png ), and explorer not being able to find or access some subdirectories. Close the explorer window and open a new one, and everything's fine for a while. Sometimes days, sometimes minutes. This has happened on every one of my XP systems, includeing XP 64-bit. Yes, I have scanned for malware with numer…

Keyboard Problem
by Guest RN1- 2 replies

I have WinXP Pro installed in C: as well as D: i.e. when I switch on my PC, I can select which OS to log into (dual boot). I had to recently change my motherboard after which I find that though Windows gives me the dual boot option, I can't move between the OS using the Up/Down arrow key on the keyboard. This forces me to log into the OS that is selected by default. Please note that I didn't re-install Windows after changing the motherboard. Also when my PC starts, pressing the Del key on the keyboard takes me to the BIOS but pressing F8 to go to the Advanced Startup Options doesn't work. In other words, the keyboard stops working after the first screen when t…

SP3 and DSL
by Guest Gary S. Terhune- 12 replies

Just checking to see what problems, if anything, people using DSL might be having. I don't have any, but a client across town does. She should be getting close to 3Gbps and is only getting maybe 400 to 100 Mbps. Instead of 300 KB/s downloads, she's getting anything from under 10 up to 50. While I'm still working on t-shooting the problem (need to get a laptop over there to test with, check wiring, etc.), but the timing of the issue coincides more or less with when SP3 was installed and I've heard of a lot of complaints around town over the last few months about speeds. So, any helpful hints, any anecdotes, any links that discuss the issue would be grea…

Hi we're a small firm with 60 users. We're moving to a new environment, so we decided to buy Win2008 Server Standard + Exchange 2007 Standard. We will not wait for SBS 2008 since it will come out in November, since we need to move to a new environment till September, so the only option is to buy full products. My plan is the following: - buy a new server to run Windows 2008 Standard (member server) with Exchange 2007 * **I'm thinking of a HP DL360 1xQuadCore 8GB RAM 2x146GB SAS in RAID1 - buy a new server to use it for Windows 2008 AD + File + APP server * **I'm thinkig of a HP DL380 1xQuadCore 4GB RAM 4x146GB SAS in RAID5 or - use an existing serv…
