Computer is lagging

A few weeks ago I was using adobe premiere when my computer froze. When it came about after a few minutes it has since not been working properly. Its not as if its particularly slow - programs still fire up just as fast, web pages still load as fast etc. Its almost as if the memory has messed up or something. i can listen to music in wmp if i have nothing else open, but if i have, say, firefox running the music will lag. and will lag even more if i do something as simple as click on a folder in explorer. my whole comp is like this, like i can only use a tiny bit of memory or whatever at once. i can watch a highly compressed video if i have nothing else running, b…

I've been receiving emails from a friend for years and now, all of a sudden, when he sends an email to my @msn.com email address, I don't get it. He said that he gets no notification back to him that the email was not delivered; yet I never recieve it. I've search my MSN email program as best I know and I can't see where his address is blocked from coming to me. Can you help me, as you have done on countless occasions in the past?? Thank You -- George Jurak

Just Using the calendar in outlook
by Guest Danger_Duck- 3 replies
So I don't use Outlook at home, and there I am obviously not hooked up to a corporate network. Same thing at school. What I do like, however, is outlook's calender and how it nicely schedules everything. My problem is that every time I try to open outlook, it asks me to specify what network I want to connect to-canceling closes the applications... Is there any way for me to access outlook's calender without dealing with all the network queries? That is, how do I open up outlook without configuring outlook? Thanks!

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832936 ? It says to install a Service pack. Thats a waste of time, since XP SP3 is installed. And the hotfix above, is older than the one thats installed now I'm getting the exact error thats on this site And I dont use Standby, so I dont know why this error appears in the first place. copying files and allowing duplicates
by Guest melanie- 7 replies

I am trying to copy some emails onto a disc, but it won't allow duplicates. It either replaces the existing with the one being copied, or if you select no, it doesn't copy it at all. Many of these emails contain the same subject line so there are several "duplicates" so to speak. Is there a setting that can be changed so that when i copy, it does not ask me about replacing duplicate files? These emails are for an attorney and i can't risk missing any.

Problem Installing SP3 to XP
by Guest lwapner@roadrunner.com- 2 replies

Greetings: The install was slow and appeared to virtually halt during "Creating Backup Files". I canceled the installation but had to "alt-ctrl-del" to get out of the process. A real mess! Then did System Restore. I went through this failed process twice. All works well now without succeeding to install SP3. Questions - Typically, how long should a successful installation take? Given that I used "alt-ctrl-del" to abort two failed installations, have I created an excessive number of worthless (backup) files or other problems on my hard drive? If so, is there a safe way to delete them? Thanks!!

by Guest Chris- 0 replies

On one of our Windows 2003 server it has a service poolmon3vbs. The execute is srvany.exe. The path it pointed to has many vb scripts for poolmon output. with this service running it will automatically generate poolmon output. I'm sure we got this setup in the past by calling PSS. I need to set this up on another server but can't find any how-to. Instead opening a case with MS does anyone know how to set it up? Thanks.

I've recently encountered this issue on a Dell computer that I have. I've tried all the registry filter suggestions, I've also tried the registry scripts that I've seen posted for this problem, I've even had the DVD replaced and still I have this issue. To be precise I've tried KB 314060, I've tried the cdgone.zip, the XP_CD_DVD_fix and nothing worked. Could somebody give me another suggestion please?

XP Transfer files and Settings Wizard Q.
by Guest RJK- 1 reply

Just rebuilt Auntie's XP Home ed. PC and realised that I ran XP's "Transfer my Files and Settings," whilst her PC was at SP2 + a few, and IE6 !, and her "new" system box on the bench here is now at SP3, ...is there likely to be a problem/s when I run "Transfer my Files and Settings wizard" on new system box ? ....and does a dial-up network connection, and OE settings pop/smtp server etc. get put back in ? i.e. pointless doing it manually, if the wizard does it. (...1st time in over 25 years using that wizard - and "yes" I should have read up on it ! ) TIA regards, Richard

Win2008 Terminal Services Mandatory Profile Problems
by Guest Kat- 2 replies

My Windows 2008 terminal server is not on a domain. I would like to set mandatory profiles for the users connecting to terminal services. I have followed the instructions in the “Managing Roaming User Data Deployment Guide” but am having problems. I created a folder called Mandatory Profiles in the root of C: and have shared it out giving Everyone Full Permissions. Then I created a folder inside called mandatory.v2 as per the instructions. I set up my user with the settings I wanted and then went to the User Profile dialog box where I Copied the desired profile assigning permissions to Everyone as outlined in the instructions. Then I went to the fol…

Cleaning up C drive 1 2
by Guest m_ridzon- 25 replies

I am running WinXP SP3 Pro. My harddrive is partitioned into 4 partitions with C drive having the operating system on it. I originally formatted this harddrive about 4 years ago making C drive 10GB. Over the 4 years, I've downloaded many software updates for Windows and my other applications. I noticed that I only have about 1.5GB left in C drive and would like to free up some space if possible. Once the downloads are downloaded and ran, do the downloaded files sit dormant somewhere in the C drive? In other words, can I delete the downloaded files to free up C drive space? Or are they constantly being referenced and called upon by the computer syste…

Quantative Measure of People Still Using 98? 1 2
by Guest Smith- 25 replies
- 1.6k views
This presents a legitimate question for software developers updating their programs. To my recollection, the last 98 computer was sold in 2001. That would make the last sold computer seven years old. You would think that the number of such systems still around would be near zero. Yet, anecdotally, lots of 98 users seem to be around. They speak up on newsgroups and forums. They still seem to like their systems and boast of not changing their operating systems. Still having a ten year old operating system does reflect some sophistication of computer skills. I have long wondered if there is any reliable quantitative measure of continuing 98 u…

Hi, We have a Microsoft Server 2003 with 3 computers (XP Pro) connecting via a LAN to synchronise files in the shared folders. There is also a Draytek Vigor 2800 router for internet access with a static IP and DHCP disabled. The server is giving out the IP's for the client computers but about twice a day the clients are going 'Off Line', they loose their IP address (it reverts to 169.xxx....) and are unable to access the server or get onto the internet or print (The printer is set up through the server). I have tried giving the clients static IP's but the same thing happens anyway. I have also tried disabling and enabling the LAN connection on the clients…

DHCP Scope
by Guest Gis Bun- 3 replies

Hi. We have a single scope. The scope contains 7 segments of our network. 99% of our systems are using reserved addresses. What we want to do is to split the scope in two. 2 of the 7 segments will be on one scope with one gateway assigned and the others are on a second scope with a second gateway define. Is there a simple way or does the scope have to be wiped and the 2 scopes created from scratch? Moving/importing the reservations? Thanks
