He, I installed a ticket printer on the remote workstation and in the printer properties I set that the printer needs to print a logo stored in the printer-memory and also the cash draw must be opened. If I print via local software this works (test-page). When I print via de remote session, only the ticket is printed. The logo is not printed and the cash draw is not opened. Where do I set the properties for the printer ? Server : Windows SBS 2003 SP2 Workstation : Windows XP Pro SP2 Thanks Luc

iTunes download screwed up my PC
by Guest dubiousraves- 2 replies

Hi. I have a Compaq Presario running Windows XP. I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes, and it's wrecked my CD/ DVD functionality. (This happened to me once before, too, but I thought it was a broken Optical drive, so I installed a new one.) The only thing that works now is playing songs in the iTunes library. If I try to play a CD or DVD, there's a ticking sound, and distortion. This is true even if I used a different player from iTunes. If I try to upload a CD into iTunes, iTunes does it, but at about 1/15th the normal speed, and all other computer functions are slowed down drastically while the upload is occurring. Any ideas on fixing this? …

WMI invalid class error
by Guest RigB- 0 replies

I use the command 'wmic product' to list the installed software on either the local or a remote computer. It works most of the time on x32 systems but when I use it on XP x64 or server 2003 x64 systems I get an Invalid class error 0x80041010. Same story when using WMI in a script. Does anyone know what the story is with x64 versions of Windows (Vista x64 works!). Another namespace maybe? Thanks, Tom Gilmour Tecsult Inc.

Hi I am using XP home edition I used to be able to boot up and go straight to the desktop without having to go to the logon or select a user screen. For some reason, I now go to the small "windows logon screen" where I can just click OK and I then move onto the desktop screen. I know there is a way to bypass and stop the logon screen coming up but can't remeber how to do it. Can anyone help please. Regards

Hi, Something weird has started happening to my computer. When I shut down I click Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off, but I have to do it twice. The first time you can hear the computer “thinking” then nothing happens. The second time everything shuts down normally. This has just started within the last couple months or so. I have not had any infections/malware/spyware. The only thing that was found on my computer by Malwarebytes was Adware.PopCap. Does anyone know how to fix this. Thanks. Is there a bug and or fix for this. Thanks.

High CPU Usage After KB958644
by Guest jason.hill- 0 replies
Hi, We installed the critical update KB958644 on a Windows Server 2008 machine 2 days ago and have experienced a massive increase in CPU utilisation, apparently for the System process. Our performance monitor reports typically showed the web server running in the 5-15% CPU utilisation range for the whole day even under fairly heavy load. For the last 2 days, the CPU graph now looks like an earthquake has hit and we have had to reboot the server both days to reset the CPU to normal. Today, the graph was showing 90%+ CPU utilisation and we were not able to RDP to the box and all web sites were non-responsive so had to get the ISP to do a hard reboot. The grap…

can't find server by address, but can by name
by Guest dave64- 2 replies

Hi. We had an SBS 2003 server crash dues to a problem with a RAID controller card. This is the controller for our network. Problem is fixed. Almost everything works well. A while ago a Windows server 2003 was added to run an appllicaton. All has worked well with it and the network. Now, after the outage earlier, we can see server2 in the network neighborhood just like before. However when we try to run the app it fails saying it cannot find the server. When the app was installed they pointed to it by address - 192.168.16.3\somewhere. In trying to see what is and is not working, we tried the old standby Start -> Run \\192.168.16.3 from a couple…

DHCP will not bind

I have a server 2k3 R2 SP2 which is a DC and I cannot get the DHCP service to bind to the IP address. I have followed this post http://www.winserverkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/windows-server-sbs/45189/DHCP-not-renewing-leases which pretty much describes what is happening to me. when I go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCpip\Parameter\Interfa ces\[NIC''s GUID]\BindToDHCPServer - this key 'bind to DHCPServer' does not exist. Although this is a Dell machine I do not have open manage installed on this server. I have stopped short of restarting the server with a clean boot because I was wondering if the fact that the above registry ke…

cd-rome drive not working, error message here
by Guest perckypick- 3 replies

Hey this is my first question so sorry if it's in the wrong place... So since my computer hates me it has decided to stop the cd-rom from working. A quick check in device manager showed that it was detecting it, but wasn't loading the drivers (error 39). So I went here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060 and downloaded the "guided help". When I tried to use it, I got this lovely message: http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w247/cheeseman123_2007/cdsux2.jpg So...I'm lost. What do I do now? I really need these CD drives. Thanks in advance! P.S. To anyone who doubts my operating system is missing the drivers and …

AVG killed a file - now W2K says no access
by Guest Will Renkel- 3 replies

heres the problem... Yesterday I downloaded/installed the latest virus definitions for AVG. Suddenly it said a CYGWIN executable - df.exe - has a virus and disabled access to it. FYI - it runs just fine on other puters and was running just fine on so called bad puter. So I disabled AVG, but now W2K wont allow me access to the file. Can someone give me advice as to how to fix W2K? Yes - I have contacted AVG but no response from them yet. -- --------------------------------------------------------------- Will Renkel Wheaton, Ill. ---------------------------------------------------------------

what make system time changes?
by Guest ykffc- 4 replies

OS: Windows 2000 server When we had Daylight saving time effective weeks ago, the system time of this machine failed to adjust automatically (although I have the checkbox on to adjust automatically). I can understand this as Microsoft no longer supports this old version of OS and they no longer produce updates/patches for this. For software compatibility and other reasons we haven't upgraded this machine. However, I don't think it should be the end of the world. It is a matter of seconds to adjust the time by hand. Two days ago I started to adjust the system time from say 13:15 to 14:15 (2:15 pm). But after a while, say after 30 minutes, it was dis…

Explorer crashes with help from Dr Watson32
by Guest ldiaco- 1 reply

So, the title gave you a summary of the entire problem. Seemingly randomly, Explorer crashes, and tries to restart, but Dr. Watson32 also crashes with it, and explorer wont work until the DrWatson32 program is terminated. There have been continuing intermittent performance issues including choppy videos, slow internet communications, brief freeze ups which last up to several minutes, inability to delete some programs and files on the desktop, while others are deleted without trouble, incorrect RAM totals, etc.. I was thinking about trashing everything, and reinstalling XP, but I really don't want to, since the way my hard drives are set up, Im not sure what …

SP2 install wanted to replace RAID driver, I said no, now BSOD 7B

The 2003 server has an old Adaptec 2010S RAID card with the most recent Adaptec driver (dpti2o.sys) installed in it from July 2003. The driver is WHQL. It's been running just fine the past 5 years, and I wanted to install SP2 on it to get it up to date. During SP2 setup it said something to the effect that it had a newer mass storage driver for the RAID card that it wanted to use. I don't remember the exact text of the message, thus I haven't been able to google for it again, but at the time I was able to search for it and the recommendations I got generally said not to let it change the driver. I said to keep the current driver and SP2 finished and whe…

Spurious startup activity

After a recent update, I now find that the Norton Systwmworks folder opens on a 'Shutdown/Reboot'! There is no reference to this folder in any of the Start Menu->Startup folders and, for lack of experience, I can't see anything in SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI, BOOT.INI or STARTUP (when I run msconfig) that would give me a hint. -- BobO''''''''B

I am running XP SP3. Is was looking at msconfig as I was annoyed by a few startup items such as Adobe updater, etc. I unchecked the boxes, rebooted and everything is OK. But I have a few startup commands that I have unchecked which are still there even when I uninstalled the associated programs, as well as one with a blank command column. Is there any way to get rid of these unchecked startup entries so I don't have to look at them anymore? Thank you! -- Regards, Richard Harison
