Installing printers for non-admins
by Guest Gis Bun- 0 replies

Hi. Our Win XP PCs print to the IP [address] port of our network printers, but in order to create a new port locally and add a printer, the user requires admin rights [which most don't have]. Therefore we have to log them out and then we log in. Is there such thing as a MSC applet for printers? This way I can either go in remotely (as most MSC applets allow) or at the PC changing the MMC authority to the local admin. Thanks

Hi folks, I have used the MMC Terminal Services snap-in (%SystemRoot%\system32\tscmmc.msc /s) on my XP Pro machine to access several of our servers for administrative functions. It was very handy to have a list of servers down the left side of the MMC. When I would click on one of the entries it would connect to that server and open up that desktop in the right MMC panel. However, after installing XP SP3 the MMC now gives me an error (see attachment). If I accept the "Ignore Error" option it opens up the MMC, my servers are still listed on the left but clickon them has not effect. Any ideas or suggestions? By the way this has happened to two XP …

RDP sessions disconnected after server rejoins nlb cluster
by Guest AndiK- 5 replies

Each time a node joins (after reboot or new node) our nlb cluster, some (about 10 or twenty out of 200-300 in total) active rdp sessions to other cluster members are disconnected. The nlb cluster consists of 8 servers serving 300 rdp clients, most of them wyse thin clients. Balanced traffic is only TCP 3389. All servers are Windows Server 2003 Entrise Edition with SP2. Session redirection is achieved via windows session directory. Did anyone else notice this effect or is there a known solution? Best regards Andi

Typed words appear backwards
by Guest KateKelly- 6 replies

When typing on my laptop, whatever I type started appearing backwards. For instance, if I typed "katekelly", it would appear "ylleketak". If I typed a sentence, the entire sentence would appear backwards. I recently loaded a bunch of music into the media center. It loaded my entire documents file. I started deleting stuff that wasn't music related when I noticed it was asking if I wanted to delete it from my "PC". I thought it was just deleting from the media center. I'm new with computers and not really sure what I'm doing. -- Thanks, Kate

How bad is IE 7 let alone Vista
by Guest GTT- 2 replies

...the IE7 view is changed so I cannot find stuff, the ergonomics... the placement of the home page icon is giving me carpal tunnel. And I have yet to find my Outlook Express icon on the IE 7 Homepage. Again, Microsoft's evolution incorporating change for the sake of change, has negatively affected my quality of life. As to XP and Vista? 2K was working fine but MagicJack decided to collude with Microsoft and designed their unit to only work on registered, legal MS XP and newer. If only I was techie enough to partition my HD and dual boot with Linux ....pushing applicatins toward Linux We owe MS nothing for their evolution. In the past I booted Wi…

IE7 and UNC Paths from the address bar
by Guest Larryw- 8 replies

I am having issues with several Windows Server 2003 servers running sp2. Currently we have IE7 installed on 3 test servers, and things appear ok when you RDP to the server or the console. The issue arrises when you use an RDP published app, or publish IE7 on citrix. It will launch seamlessly on the users desktop, and they can work like normal, except when they type in a UNC path in the address bar. now this can be, \\server\share or c:\ or d:\ or a mapped drive like n:\ or u:\. when they do this they get an error. Address Bar c:\(or what ever the path is) is currently unavailable. the odd thing is it pops the path you typed in, in a windows explorer win…

IE tweak for more speed
by Guest James Finch- 12 replies

Dear Ross, I cannot really suggest any programs that will speed up Internet Explorer. From my experience, programs that claim to speed up your Internet connection simply don't. I can, however, suggest the following: * Delete your temporary Internet files every couple of days. A full Temporary Internet Files folder will significantly reduce your browsing speed, as well as causing a few other problems * On the Advanced tab of Internet Explorer's Options dialog, in the Multimedia section, uncheck anything you don't need IE to load on a Web page. For example, if you uncheck 'Play sounds in webpages', IE won't bother downloading them. This will speed thing…

Last Sunday (10/26/2008) all my Windows XP SP3 and Windows 2003 Server SP2 got their date changed back one hour. Any idea why? How do I repair this problem? I've already read and gone through the following thread and it's not working for me. http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/windowsxp/264794/Windows-XP-SP3-handles-Daylight-Savings-Time-end-incorrectly When I apply the patch to both 2003 sever or XP SP3, I got the following error: Update cannot be installed as a newer or same timezone update has already been installed on the system Any help is much appreciated.

RDP fails with "This computer can't connect to the remote computer" with no Terminal Services error indication Has anyone else experienced the following problem with a Remote Desktop Connection to a Windows Server 2003 SE SP2 with all current High Priority and Optional updates applied? Any suggestions? The following is displayed in a critical error pop-up dialog box: Remote Desktop Disconnected This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The connection was lost due to a network error. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. The error occurs regardless if the conn…

Hi, I'm testing with a ts 2008 server and remote app. A customer uses an online (internet) application (via local pc)in which he can select a ms-word document. If it is selected than the contents of the document must be displayed in the remote app ms-word application. Is this possible? I did read something about making this connection via a msi file but don't know if this is correct. Thx. Ramon

TSAdvertise Feature - how exactly does it work ...
by Guest anonymous- 1 reply

Hi group, does anyone know or have some documents, links, ressources how the tsadvertise feature exactly works? I was wondering because I enabled the registry key (according to KB281307) on all of our servers that we access using RDP and now I am able to see all servers in my RDP-client. Of course that's what I wanted. But for interesst I'd like to know why I also see servers in other network segments. So it is for sure no broadcast mechanism. But how does it work instead? tia for your help Greetings, Marco
